Horn comes on in middle of night

In the last week my '01 Screw's horn has started blaring two different nights. Hitting the horn on the steering wheel makes it go off. Since new, the horn has always been super sensitive. The nights were two of the colder nights we've had this year. I'm guessing the contacts are too close together in the wheel or there is a missing/broken spring.

Anyone have any advice, pics or instuctions on how to get to the horn contacts?

this happened to my 98.

water/condensation apprently get in one of the components (in the grill) When the temp goes down at night, the water expands thereby activating the horn. When you tap the steering wheel pad, you are correcting whatever it is that is opening and letting it shut.

Not sure if its an actuator or contact or what (I forget what the mechanic explained) But this sounds exactly like what I had on both my 98 F150 and my 89 Chev 1/2 ton.

Easy fix is to park with the front of the truck away from the wind and secondly, be careful spraying water in the grill area during ther colder months also... avoid using your horn in the rain during the cold months. I found this also caused the problem.

Hope this helps.

bbauman,

I think your in the right area, I was in under one of these steering wheels years ago, and was thinking the horn ring was a pressure pad.

I don't have to tell you that the AIR BAG is a very dangerous thing to work around if you havn't the experence with working on one. So ask a person that knows before you pull that puppy apart to get to the horn button.

Maybe the thing was positioned wrong when installed or the cover is pulled to tight.

Go to your dealers parts counter, they should have an pictorial view of it, or give you advice (like don't mess with it, let us charge you to do it)

Have any friends that are body shop people? They mess with them alot.

It has been getting a little chilly the last few nights around here!
