2000 Fuel Gauge Problem

I have 2000 4x4 5.4 and the fuel gauge is not resetting it self after I get gas. It gives the same reading as before I unless I stop and restart my truck several times then it goes to where it's supposed to? Anyone have this problem before, it seams like a sensor os going bad, which sensor would this be?

Cool

Don't know if this is applicable, but:

I live in Florida. Lately, we have been having a rash of bad weather (3 hurricanes) and as a result, lots of gas stations have been running completely out of gas.

Well, I noticed 2 weeks ago (right after Frances) that when I was finished filling up, my gauge only went to a little over the 3/4 tank tic mark on the gauge.

Drove for a day oe two and noticed the gauge was now tracking the fuel level downward as I added miles (my Lightning drinks it quickly, so it didn't take long for the gauge to move).

Anyway, I refueld a few days later and all was fine.

Two days ago, Ivan shows up and everyone starts freaking out and the gas stations start running low or out again. Guess what ?

I filled up last night and my gauge only went up to a little over the 3/4 mark again.

This time, however, it eventually made it to a little over the "F" (where it normally goes when I fill up) as I drove the 15 miles or so home.

Anyway, I think that when the gas station tanks get so low, the rust, dirt, etc. that is in them gets "stirred up" when they are re-filled and that stuff is messing with my gauge. I know two other folks who have recently witnessed the same activity with their gauges, so I don't think my gauge is failing.

I guess time will tell...
