Hi, my trucks a '98 f150. When I press the button to turn overdrive off nothing happens, the light doesnt come on or anything. All the wires look good, I took the shifter off but I don't know how to check the wire inside the shifter. The end doesn't seem to twist off and I don't wanna try too hard and break anything. Can anyone tell me how to get inside it to check the connection at the button?

 

I've got the exact same problem and have had for some time. I have a 1998 F150 and my truck will not turn on or off overdrive. My light doesn't work on the end of the shifter nor will it disengage overdrive. I guess I'm glad I'm stuck in overdrive, but there have been many times I have hauled stuff and really needed to drop out of overdrive and had to shift down to 2.

Someone needs to find a solution and fix to this problem. Let me know.

had the same prob. took it to the dealer had the overdrive switch replaced works fine. switch will go bad.

 

Does Ford Replace the switches for free? Since it seems to be a defect on the 1998 F150.

 

they replaced mine under the warranty
