I think my alternator went out??

My battery light was on most of the day yesterday and returning from the gym, I think my alternator bought the farm.

All the sudden the battery charge indicator gauge dropped to about nothing, the radio died and the windshield wipers went in to slow motion mode.

I am looking at auto supply stores for an alternator right now and wonder if anyone knows what the stock amp rating is. I have a 2000 F-150 with the 5.4 and "only" 88,000 miles.

Local auto supply stores want about $220 for a remanufactured unit and about $250 for brand new. I see 90 amp units on the net for as little as $129.

Is there one that everyone uses that I should get?

Greg

It depends on the package that you're truck came with. Standard is 90 amps but if you got the towing package you'll have a 130 amp alternator.

If you got the towing package you have the 130 amp alternator, otherwise you got the standard 90 amp one.
