CB Installation

I am considering on putting a CB in my F150 much like the blue one at the top of the screen. I was wondering on where I could install the CB and the antenna? I do not want to cause much harm to the vehicle. Also could someone send me some pictures of where they located theres. Inside and Out.

Thanks

i mounted mine down by the floor vents in the middle of the dash. its a little udien 40 though and i have a manual tranny so i dont think a big cobra would fit there on a manual trans truck. i mounted the 8 foot francis whip to the drivers front corner of the bed ran tha coax through the little vents in the back of the cab. and wired it right up to the extra power port next to the cig lighter.

only had to drill one hole in front bed lip. went to a truck stop and bought some brackets then took back the ones i didnt use.

and there is always the magnetic base optoin for the antenna.

Ok I got a custom installation bracket to mount the CB but where shall I put the antenna? Should I get a glass mount or a magnetic mount?

Thanks

i would think the glass mount would cause the least amount of harm to your truck. i had one with alittle magnet and it would come off on the interstate and flop around. and slide around and could scratch paint.

window mnt V mag Mount

Never use a window mount antennae because of the fact that the signal must go through glass it causes the radio to loss much distance and may cause it to over heat due to high SWR's wich will make the final go out. I am a cb technician and wish they never made those antenna's although i have used magnet mounts many times and never had a problem you just have to use a good one which will cost you more but less in the long run a good type i have found is mad by wilson its calles the little-Will there around 40-60 bucks but the best on the market.

Get one that mounts in the stake pocket on your bed. I did that, and fed the wire up through the bedside.

If you have an aftermarket radio then it makes things 10 times easier. Mine is just wired up to the power wire.

You should be able to splice the + and - wires into a power source, could even be the back side of the cigarette lighter. Just cut the power tip off, and splice em in there. Thats how i hard wired my radar detector, so it comes on with the truck, and turns off with the truck.

Hmm...my ciggy lighter doesn't turn off when the truck does, or else I would have done that with my old detector too.

umm, maybe the plug itself is dead, like a wire came off the back.... I actually tapped my overhead console for power for my detector.

None of the plugs are dead, they both work. They just don't shut off when the truck does.

I am using a magnetic base ant. on the top of my cab reception was okay, I have to switch over to a glass mount now because I added a ladder rack to my truck, and space is limited to the front windscreen, and I have also knocked the antenna off the truck by gunning it real hard. I dont really care for my Radio Shack CB model as it doesnt get good reception where I live-which is hard to understand cause the big antennas on the mountain are about a mile from the house. I need a better CB radio I thought paying $60 woulda got me a good 1 I was wrong.

I have always used the KC-40 mag mount. There are a few pics of my mount in my gallery but its an 06. In my 2000 I mounted in the same place as mentioned above. As for the power in my 2000 I also used the back of the lighter as it was close and easy to get to. Now im using a Blank spot in my fuse panel with a 10amp fuse I think. You just have make sure you get a good ground as that is the most important part. I'm thinking of running a ground wire to my battery as i am starting to get noise in the radio. Good luck with the install.
