Turn signals

The blinkers and brake lights stopped working. The bulbs are o.k. I unfortunately have lost my owners manual so I do not know which fuse or switch box are related to this problem. I did pull every fuse I could get to and all fuses appeared to be good. Does anyone have a picture of the fuse or relay location for a 2000 f150? or have any ideas of what I should check now?. Thanks for the help.

Fuse 13 for stop lamps and fuse 23 for turn signals.I would suspect multifunction switch if both fuses are good.Sometimes working and wiggling hazard switch will cause turn and stop lamps to work again.Turn key to run position, turn on either turn lamp and start working the hazard switch. If this doesn't work remove trim and check the connection at the back of MF switch.Sometimes this connection works loose with the use of tilt wheel.Let us know results.

Thanks for the link of the owners manual. I checked fuses they are o.k.. I moved the tilt steering wheel around and sure enough the blinkers worked, but only for a second. So I guess it is the multifunction switch. I am going to try and get the panel around steering wheel off and get to switch. Are these switches avaliabe at auto stores or just Ford dealers? Thanks for help.

Had a very similar problem on my 2000 F150. It turned out to be the wiring harness connection which controls the OD and turn signals, etc. and is mounted on top of the steering column, just behind the steering wheel. The problem is the plastic connector locking tab becomes brittle and breaks as the tilt wheel is used; particularly in the downward motion.

I removed the top and bottom steering column covers first of all. When I tilted my wheel down, I could see that the connectors would pull out of one another and not make contact. However when I tilted my wheel up, it was fine. The wires were tied with electrical tape so tight that when the wheel would move down, it broke the connector.

I removed all of the electrical tape from around the wires to give it more slack for movement. Then, I brought the old connectors into the Ford dealership and was able to purchase a new male/female connector. Lastly, I punched down the wires.

I hope this helps.

Jeff

How does the cover for the key come off? I was worried I would break it if I forced it. Also how did you get the bottom cover past the tilt stick. I did remove the cover partially and I saw the connector you are talking about. I pushed it in and now the brake lights and signals are working. I realize though that it is a temporary fix in that as soon as I move the tilt the problem will reappear.

The tilt column **** unscrews. Wrap a rag around the end of it to keep from marring it up too much and grab a hold of it with a pair of pliers.

The ignition key cover doesn't come off, the whole cylinder does. With the key in the on position, look underneath the hole where the cylinder goes in, you should see a small silver button. Push it in with a screwdriver or a pick, move the ignition lock a little and it'll come right out.

Check your emergency flashers. If they were turned on but not turned off after the truck ignition was turned off and left for a while this will cause your turn and brake lights not to work. I know this sounds silly but I joined this site this morning for helf and when I read the post about the tilt I asked my wife who used my truck to pick up some plants and she said that she did not miss with my tilt wheel but did have on the flasher. I turned off the flasher button (the flashers were not going) and the turn signals work
