Howdy all. First time here in over 3 years.

My 1996 Bronco keeps tripping the "check engine" light. I can reset it by disconnecting the battery cable and it will reset then come back a few days or weeks later. Sometimes it will go off by itself. Is there a way to retreive whatever codes may be set without a scan tool?

Any help would be appreciated.

edit: After searching about 8 pages worth of posts for "codes", let me say that we don't have Autozone stores in the Seattle area.
