cruise control
Cruise control not working on my 97 F 150. Just got me a new 2004 super cab lariat. The 97 is going to my son . Long drive to get it there in Az, but the cruise contol just quit. The lights on the steering wheel fot the cruise still work, but nothing else does Anyone have any ideas where to start looking for the problem? Thanks
MY TRUCK THE CRUISE DOES NOT WORK THE HORN DOESNT WORK AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHES THE PROBLEM IS THE CLOCK SPRING. IT GOES IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND HAS A RIBBON SIMILIAR TO A RIBBON INSIDE OF A COMPUTER. OVER TIME THAT RIBBON BREAKS BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL BEING TURNED THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM, THE RIBBON IS NOT COMPLETELY BROKE YET, I HAVE THE CLOCK SPRING BUT HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE IT YET HAS ANYONE DONE THIS INSTALL?
My horn and everything else works fine. just my cruise is not working. You my be right, is there a test of some kind to determine if it is the clock spring or do you have to take it apart to check it?
My limited experience has been that the a clock spring failure will result in multiple symptoms including the airbag light, horn and cruise control. If you just have the cruise problem, and it's not a fuse, then you might want to check the switch associated with the brake pedal.

Check fuse #5 (15A). This fuse powers the CC servo, the DTR (and backup light control) and your heater controls. If your A/C doesn't work, or your heater temp control seems "stuck" as well as the CC failure, the fuse (or fuse block) is the culprit. The contact in my fuse block went bad, so I had to jumper around it with a new, ignition controlled power source. Hope this helps.
The cruise on my Windstar quit working and it was something in the brake system. It was several years ago and I can't remember the name maybe 'brake modulator'? Anyway, the fuses were good as were the brake lights and it didn't affect the brakes at all, just made the cruise let go.

I have the same exact problem. Everything electrical works, except the cruise control. I noticed that before it went out it would gradually "ramp up" the speed, if you set it at 65, about two minutes later I would hear the engine working a little harder, look down see I was doing 75-80. It also would sometimes turn itself off.
Any help would be appreicated.

I am having the same problem with my 97 F150. No cruise or horn.
Then Sunday I went to start it and the ABS light starting flashing. 15 times then a pause, maybe 16 I can't remember. And it would not release from park. I was told the clockspring was probably my problem last week for the horn and cruise but I dont have a clue about the other. I got it in neutral by slightly turning the key on and then started it and drove it home.
Any clues?? I am going and vacation this weekend but I get to use a van camper to tow the quads so I dont need to fix it for that. I need a

Well when I got the truck home the brake lights went out as I was backing the trailer in the drive. I replaced that fuse and it fixed the ABS and Park switch. I have seen 1 other time when a fuse had partially blown and things acted weird but the fuses tested good. I have ordered the Clockspring. I will be pulling the steering wheel tonight and pick up the switch and put it in tomorrow.

I cannot find anything else not working on my truck. Only thing is the cruise. I will have to try and get a repair manual to find out how to diagnose the problem.
thanks
