Question Question on Oil Sending Unit

My oil pressure gauge and light have been acting up lately. Start the truck and the gauge shows no oil pressure, after driving for awhile the pressure comes up and the light goes off. Talked to my local mechanic and he says he has heard of similar problems on other F-150's. Truck is a 2000 F-150, if that matters. Mechanic said it sounds like an oil sending unit going bad. Sounds like the whole thing would be about $100 bucks. But I am one of those people that love to do things myself and save the money. Anyone know where the oil sending unit is located and how big of a job it is to replace it? Thanks for any help!!!

Cool

Since you don't have the engine type listed here or in your profile, we will have to guess.

Anyway, my old 2001 SuperCrew had a 5.4L and had the exact same problem.

Oil sending unit is around $10 and can be found right on the oil filter adapter. 10 minute job to change...

If you have the 4.6L, you will have to wait for someone else to chime in...

You already got the good advice. I just wanted to add that it's common and a TSB has been issued about it.

I have a 2000 Expedition with the 4.6L and mine is on the front side of the oil filter adapter also.

thanks again for the help, will pick up the part this weekend and get that taken care of! People riding give me a weird look when they see if have no oil pressure (or so the light indicates)!

I have a 2000 4.6 f-150 and it was doing the same thing .... do not ignore this problem. i was affraid to drive mine with the gauge reading zero and when this would happen i would pull over immediatly and shut the truck off .restart it and it would be fine .... until the last time it did this I pulled over and shut it down and it hasn't started since The dealer had it for 3 weeks and couldn't fix it I am working on it myself now and will keep updating my progress
