Power side mirror moves up/down but not in/out

My 2000 F150 power side mirror can adjust up and down but not inward and outward. Where should I look first?

Thanks,

Jeff

It may be possible that the white post head disengaged/broke from the motor or mirror that does that movement for those 2 directions. If you turn the mirror full in look at the back side of the mirror back and make sure there are 2 white posts stuck into the back of the mirror. There is a motor for up/down and one for in/out.

If these are intact and OK it may be time for a new mirror assembly. The little motors are not serviceable and will need replacement of the whole unit/mirror housing

Go here and look at the install directions for the retro-fit kit in the middle of the page. It will show a little better and explain these white post that move the mirror

My 2000 Windstar just started to have that problem except it is up and down vs your in and out (both mirrors). I remember getting in a rush making an adjustment and might have pushed the directional switch too hard. I was going to replace the switch assembly because I believe that is the only thing common to both mirrors. There were a few used ones on Ebay for like $8.

Only the passenger side has the problem. Thanks for the input. I will check to make certain that the post is intact.

I had the same problem with my 98. Took it in to the dealer and they found it to be a faulty switch

It is most likely you switch. Buy a "new" one at the dealer for about $15.00 and replace it. Takes just a matter of minutes.

Found the problem. It was the rubber seal that evidently keeps water from contacting the mirror motor. Evidently it was twisted onto the white post which adjusts the mirror. Trimmed the rubber and now it works good as new. I'll see how long it lasts.
