Question Battery Indicator on Dash ????

Hi, Just found this board. I am hoping that someone here can help me!

I just bought a '97 F150 Supercab 4x2. The truck is in cherry condition, but has 175k miles. It runs great, however, when I accelerate hard (like passing someone on the highway), the "battery" indicator on the dash flickers on and off.

Is this a problem that I should be worried about? A possible problem with the voltage regulator or alternator? Maybe a cable loose somewhere?

TIA
Bob

Could be your serpentine belt has stretched or your alternator is on the way out.

Battery Indicator on Dash

Yankee,

Thanks for the info. I had the truck serviced when I picked it up. They replaced the serpentine belt.

Could it be slipping? Incorrect tension?

Thanks,
Bob

If they replaced the belt it is most likely not slipping. The light indicates a problem with the alternator. I beleive that parts stores will test the alternator for free.

Thanks!

If it gets worse, I'll pull it see if that is the problem.
