Keyless Entry Question

My father has a 2000 F-150 that he bought used from a local dealer. He THINKS the truck has keyless entry, but he didn't get remotes when he bought the truck.

I'd like to get him a remote or two for his birthday - does anyone know how I can tell for sure if the truck has keyless entry?

I appreciate the help! Thanks!

Thanks very much for the information. It's looking like the truck does not have remote locks.

I tried turning the key to run 8 times, as described in the linked post, and nothing happened. I also looked for a white box by the parking brake, and I didn't see one.

It funny, because I looked at the owner's manual, and the manual specifically states that the truck is equipped with remote locks. The manual does not give instructions for programming the locks, however, as the linked post stated it would. Instead, the manual says that the remotes must (and can only be) programmed by the dealer.

And I was wrong, the truck is a 1999, not a 2000.

hmmm the remote programming procedure is ussually in the owners manual and the key program procedure if you have 2 programmed working keys. but if you only have one key then it is a dealer key programming procedure.

drrarick, that is a great idea.
Father's Day will be here in a couple of months.
Just before Christmas I borrowed my wife's van took it to Circuit City and had a Remote Starter installed for $100. We already had two remote entry fobs and the remote starter is now a third one. All that is required is power door locks. I think all XLTs had those. They did the job in under two hours.

The remote starter is great on those cold mornings, the vehicle will run for ten minutes.
