Question Intermittent Rear Vent Windows

2001 EXCURSION 5.4L STOCK 51K miles
Has anyone experienced a problem with intermittent rear vent windows? At times both rear vent windows will not open. At other times one vent will not open and the other will. Last week neither vent window would open but, I heard a "click" sound from the left motor when I tried to open the left vent and a "click" sound from the right motor when I tried to open the right window. Today I measured the voltage directly across the right side motor termnals with the "open" switch activated. I read 11.8V and heard a "click" but the motor did not turn. After doing that the left vent started working properly when activating the left vent switch. If I had not been having problems with both sides, I would think the right side vent motor is defective since I am getting 11.8V directly across the right side motor. The only other thing that appears to be common to both circuits is the ground connection. However, I looked at the wiring diagram from Mitchells and the diagram for the 2001 window circuit does not show the correct wiring colors going to the right side motor. Then I looked at the Mitchells 2002 wiring diagram and it shows the correct color wires for my vehicle. The 2001 diagram says the common ground (G404) is located at the "left rear of vehicle"and the 2002 diagram says the common ground (G301) is located at the "rear end of vehicle roof". Does anyone have the correct diagram for this vehicle and can you tell me where the common ground is located? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not convinced it is a ground problem because I have a voltage drop of 11.8V across the right side motor but, at this point I am grasping at straws. Also, I have never had a problem gettng the windows to close once they were opened, the problem is to get the windows to open. THANKS!

just kinda thinking out loud, sounds like your motors could be over traveling when comming closed, which would put excessive torque on the window actuator and effectivly bind it. i dont have the vent windows in my expy so i can only guess.

Thanks for the reply. Never did get an opportunity work on the vent windows again but, I did get an opportunity to test your theory on a recent trip to Alaska. While driving the very bumpy ALCAN highway, I decided to try the vent windows. When I got to a very bumpy stretch of highway I hit the left vent switch and the vent window came open but, the right vent window would not budge. The next day I tried the right vent widow again and, after several attempts, it opened also. Thanks for your advice. I just returned from the trip yesterday so this is my first opportunity to get back to you with the results.
