7 Way wiring for 2002 F150
My 2002 F 150 has a 4 way flat connector for trailer lights.I need to have a 7 way connetor to get electric brakes and auxillary power .
Is the wiring in the harness going back? Will I have to run the wiring myself?JWP
The easiest way to fix your problem is to stop by your dealer and pick up the wiring harness that comes with the Class III Towing Package. That will give you both the flat 4 and 7 blade RV connectors you need at the rear of the truck. You'll also need the factory pigtail to connect your electric brake controller under the dash and several relays for the fuse box under the hood. Your dealer should be able to sell you everything you need for a total plug-in installation.
Your best bet is as 2stroked said. Go to the dealer and get the harness assembly from them. It comes with all the wiring needed to connect into the existing harness in the back of the truck, the 7 pin connector and 4 pin connector and mounting plate. All you do is plug it in to the harness on the frame rail in rear, mount plate to truck with 4 and 7 pin connectors and attach 1 ground and your done. It has 2 connectors that both plug into factor harness.
I just switched mine from the 7 pin only to the newer complete assembly with the bracket having both 4 and 7 pin connectors. Took about 15 min to install.

You will then need the relays for the underhood fusebox and the connector for the brake controller. All can be had at the dealer. If a truck came from the factory with tow package it can with a kit that had these. Some people have sold them off on Ebay and they are on their frequently. You can also get the harness for the brake controller from most places that deal with brake controllers for factory hook-ups.

One additional thought. If you're towing something big enough to have electric brakes - and your truck doesn't have the factory towing package - you might want to add some other stuff. The two things I'd recommend are a Class III frame hitch and a transmission cooler. Trust me, you'll be much better off with these.
Ok 2stoked I have already installed the class 111 hitch.
Checking on the transmission cooler ,I have a small cooler down low behind the radiator and ac coil I need to check it out and see what it goes to.I think it is for thetransmission .I also checked on the relays needed for the tow package only needed two relays every thing else was in place.Only thing I need now is the electric brake controler I hope to install that this weekend.Thank you for the help.

I you have not bought the controller yet check this site out:
http://www.rjays.com/Tekonsha/prodigy-01.htm
I bought the Prodigy and the oem wiring hookup and had it in 2 days. Great prices and free shipping also. Great controller and easy to set-up and use, comes with 2 styles of mounts, carry case for when not using , and all needed wiring.
Its a good idea to make sure you have the tranny cooler for the long hauls. I have the factory tow package on mine and it included the trans cooler. I`ve towed a 18ft car hauler to NY twice now and have never had a problem. Getting ready for the third trip in April to haul another old car up there.
