Possible to change keypad code?

If you replace that white box under the dash of Ford vehicles with another box with a different code will that change the code. If it is that easy it would be great, Ford wants like $500 to change the code and I'm curious what is actually involved. If all you have to do is replace that box under the dash life would be much easier. Thanks for the help in advance.

well i dont know what car you have, i have a 99 eddie bauer explorer, and i know u can change the keypad code with just using the keypad. I dont have my manual on me, but it is it there. you just need to know your original code and it gives u directions.

Although I haven't tried this on my 2000 F150, my 92 CrownVic keypad works like this:

Yes, you can program another code into the keypad, but the original, factory code, will still work, too. If you disconnect the battery and "clear" the computer, your programmed code will also disappear, but the factory code stamped on the box will still work.

The code is defiantly imbedded in the box....you can program a second one....the only thing i would be skeptical of is, can you just change that module? Banshee, do you want to change the permanent code, or the programmed one? and if you want to change the permanent one, why? I guess I'm just trying to figure out if you have a bad module or you just want to change your code.....

Okay here's the deal. My friend has a 2003 Explorer with the keyless entry. Someone that she know knows the code to her truck, and she feels threatened that it will get tampered with. So basically the permanant code needs to be changed so that person cannot get into her truck. I'm thinking you should just be able to replace the white module under the dash and the code will change. Maybe even swap modules from another new Ford vehicle in her family, I don't see why the modules would differ per vehicle, that doesn't seem as efficient as using the same part for every new Ford vehicle. That would be the optimum situation, being able to just switch modules between the family.

Why not just unplug the keypad? Lot less expensive.

I don't know for sure if replacing like module to like module is a direct swap. It should be, but I have not read of it being done.

Some trucks are CSM some are RAP modules.

The cut off point for the RAP to Central Security Module is 2-OCT-00, so part of the 01 model year is RAP part is CSM.

To make things worse, the CSM and the RAP install in the same place, using what looks to be the same connector ( C257 ), but the wiring in the connector from the RAP to the CSM is much different.

To make things a bit more confusing, this info is from a F-150, so it may not apply to a EXPY. Never can tell if the EXPY and the F-150 followed the same cut off dates. Lots of other design dates between the F-150 and EXPY don't follow suit.

Good luck

2003 Expy and F150 security modules are quite different and are not interchangeable. To change the permanent code you will need to get a new security module - maybe a salvage yard is a good starting point?
