Lights On with Unlock

I know this has been brought up but I can't find any information after several searches.

Is it possible to make your headlights come on when you click your UNLOCK button on your remote?

It'd be really nice to have this available and it's one thing that I love about the majority of GM vehicles. It seems so simple and helps out so much that I'm not sure why Ford hasn't engineered this into their electrical system.

That is what happens with both my 99 XLT and 99 Lariat. If I hit the unlock the lights come on in the cab. On the XLT once the door is closed the lights go off. On the Lariat they will stay lit until the engine is cranked or for about 15 seconds.

Brad,

Are you feeling brave? There is a circuit coming off the RAP module that sends a signal to the GEM to turn on the interior lights when you press the unlock button on the key fob. Pull the current from that to run a relay that turns on the Head Lights. First thing to do is to cut the wire to see if the interior lights do not come on only when the fob button is pressed. If it kills them all the time then it is a no go.

Let me know.

Regards

Brad,

Sorry about that. I got a little side tracked. Its freezing here and I am chasing a leaking rear slider. I will have an answer some time Friday. My 14 yr old is off from school that day and He will be helping me research.

Brad,

Bad news. I took 10 minutes at lunch time to go out and check the wires. Who am I kidding? I work at home so I went out at 11:30. Well it turns out that the wire I was suggesting has current, about 11 volts, all the time and it dips to about 4 only when the key fob button is pressed. This dip is what triggers the GEM to turn on the interior lights.

So how about running a lead from the Interior lamps circuit to the relay which powers the headligths?

The only downside to it would be everytime you open a door, the interior lights would com on AND the headlights would come on.

Ahh..... so, I guess that's a no-go. Oh well... thanks JMC!

I'd rather the lights not come on with the interior lights although I guess that would work...

I guess if I want it to work that I"ll have to go with an alarm system as mentioned earlier. AKA, I doubt it'll ever happen for me. *shrugs*

Brad,

I did some more looking and there is a circuit that sends 12 v to the power doorlocks to unlock them when you press the unlock button on the key fob. If you hook up a timer circuit to a relay it could be used to power the head lights. I will look for 12v timer circuits and get back to you.

Golly gee man... you're the best. Still though, is this something I'm going to be able to handle?
