Remote starter wiring question.

I've got a '97 F150 and bought the Crimestopper Remote Starter and I cannot get the door locks to work with the remote. I do not have keyless entry or a factory fob. I installed the system according to the tech article found here at F150online.com and everything went as planned except for the door locks. I tapped into the exact color wires for the door locks but mine doesn't work. They still work from the switch, just not the remote starter fob. The article I was working off of was for a different year than my '97, are there any differences? Did Ford change the polarity for the door lock actuators from '97 to new years?

Also, the only difference was that I tapped into the wires from the door itself. In the article, he tapped into the wires from the firewall. I could not 'unplug the harness' as he did so I just pulled the door panel off and found the wires I needed....Maybe there is a relay between the switch and firewall? I have a repair manual but it doesn't help me much.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If the truck doesnt have factory keyless it should be a reverse polarity system which is a lot more involved than the negative trigger style that most aftermarket alarms send out the wires are kida hard to get to but if you take the bolster off below the steering wheel it will give you better visiblity ,you will need a pair of relays to do this if reverse polarity unless your alarm has " door lock internal or external module" you can probe the wires with a test light(connected to ground) to check if the truck has negative trip ( the locks will activate )

So if I ground the wires to the locks and they work, it's a reverse polarity? The kit came with two relays (for various types of locks and vehicles) so I have the stuff for it. The instructions say how to wire it if it is a reverse polarity so I guess I will go from there. Just confused on how to tell or how to test for the type I have.

Thanks,
Jeff C.

Your getting closer......if they lock and unlock by grounding the wires its a negative system ( maybe bought the truck used and they didnt give the fobs) just check your alarm and see what the output on the doorlock leads are most are negative ,but there are a few positive pulse also.....so if the grounding doesnt lock your doors wire it for reverse polarity.....Good luck !!!

Got it. I didn't know that a negative system and a reverse polarity are two different things. I will try again when the weather warms up some.
