Question no gauges, help

I've got a 98 f150 extended cab 4x4, 4.6 v8. A while back I ran out of gas on the freeway and the gas gauge showed almost full, ever since then it has been stuck on full, accept when I shut off the truck when it drops to empty. I'm also not sure if any of the other gauges are working correctly, the spedo and tach work most of the time. But sometimes they'll just drop and look like the truck is off. I spoke with the guys at the dealer and they said that they would charge about 4-6 hours just to find out where the problem is at, then there's the charge of parts and labor on top of that.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

Hi reality, and Welcome.

When I first started reading this I thought, "Hey, this guy has a bad fuel sending unit." After reading more it sounds like the cluster is messed up. The short answer is to get a cluster off EBay, there's one there now with a "Buy It Now" of $125. It isn't too hard to install either.

Not a bad deal if you're interested.
