Drivers side power window

Yesterday my battery was dead. I jumped it without any problems but after I drove off the drivers side power window didn't work, passenger side was fine. I thought it was the relay and swapped it with #5 which is the same type... still not working. I then checked out the switch itself and it seems to be fine. After all that it started working and then stoped when I got in to drive away. Any ideas? I will probally go and buy a new relay anyhow, just in case.

sound more like the switch or the connection for the switch. I would look for corrision on the switch pins or inside the connector.

Yeah, I'd take the switch out, disassemble, clean contacts with pspray cleaner, reassemble, re-install, and see what happens. Did that recently and it solved my problem.

I also have a problem occasionally with my drivers side power window (97 F-150). Although I believe my problem is mechanical not electrical. My window will roll down about half way and stop. It takes some pressure with my hand pushing down and it will then open fully. It does not do this all the time and it does not appear to be a weather or temperature related problem as it happens both winter and summer. Anyone know if there is a way to lubricate this unit short of disassembling the door?

You have to take the door apart, but it only takes a couple of minutes. The only thing that bugged me was that the panel is held on with those expandable plastic rivets that break when you pry them out.

Pry up the window and door lock panel and unplug the switches

Pull off the trim panel at back edge of the door (hard plastic piece running vertically), exposing plastic rivet #1 (Pry out/Break off)

Pull off triangular trim piece at top front of door panel near mirror, exposing plastic rivet #2. (Pry out/Break off)

Pry out slug near door handle and remove handle mechanisim (3/8 nutdriver I think)

Lift panel UP, and then out. Unhook courtesy lamp.

Peel vapor barrier off inside of door, clean, adjust, and lube tracks.

Since you are going to break the plastic rivets, buy a package at the autoparts store ahead of time, an assorted batch runs $3-$5.

Good Luck!
