MAF code driving me crazy
MAF code driving me crazy
I have a 97 F-150 4.6 and recently have gotten the MAF code coming up.I have replaced the sensor 2 times{thinking I had gotten a bad one the 1st time} and still getting the code. My truck idles great and runs great when I reset the codes until I shut the truck off and the code comes back.If I touch the gas pedal the truck dies. I have replaced TPS,coil packs, plugs and wires, and MAF and the fuel filter.Any ideas?
Hello and Welcome.
When you say MAF code, which one is it? There are various codes that could indicate various things. It seems like you have changed all the usual suspects, but I'm attaching a link to a thread about a P0401 code. The last post in the thread is a link to an old post that shows clogged ports that could also be your problem.
Check out both posts and see if any of these could apply to you.

Good Luck!

They just told me it was the MAF code not the number but I'm going to try cleaning out the portsand see what that does cause that sounds like what my problem is.I'll let you know later... Thanks~Dot
Don't run off Dot. The pros with V-8 problems live in the Engines Forum. You can always ask again there. I know the MAF can be cleaned, and some people have managed to get a bad replacement out of the box. If you have the actual code number I'm sure a few of the guys in Engines can give you more help than I have.
FWIW:My book shows 2 MAF codes
PO102 MAF Low Input
PO103 MAF High Input

Get the DTC scanned again, and post the actualy number, not the 2 line description that the guy at AutoZone gives you.
AutoZone is getting almost as bad as PepBoys with the "it's you {blank }" ( PepBoys is usually it is your O2 sensors for everything ).
Get the number, and we can help out, a DTC that has a MAFS as the reporting device are the 2 above, a DTC that can be caused by a dirty MAFS are lots.

Ok, I remember now it's both the PO102 and the PO103 and I didn't get the codes from the guys at AZ or PB cause we all know they don't know anything except what the computer tells them-haha.
Guess what?I got it fixed and it didn't cost me anything. went to junk yard and got a MAF and my truck runs awesome... I'm so happy
thanks to everyone who helped~Dot
