new solenoid

Yesterday I replaced the positive battery cable and starter solenoid.
When I tried to start the truck..... the new battery cable smoked and the insulation melted. Now I am spooked. What in hell did I do wrong??

Did you get the wires to the solenoid backwards? Sounds like a short to ground.

sounds like the starter has shorted across the armatuer...just replace the whole 'kit'n kabboddle'
