Is there a way to determine if you have the 95 amp or 130 amp alternator and if you have the 95 amp alternator, can you upgrade to the 130 amp alternator by simply changing the alternators out? Will the change out cause any electrical problems? I assume I have the 95 amp alternator on my 98 4.6 because after installing e'fans, the volume on my stereo went down significantly. Finally, will changing the alternators even fix the problem with my stereo?
Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know about the alternator, but if your stereo has a problem after you installed e-fans, I'd be looking for a wiring issue.
Even if the fans draw 30 amps continuous it's not enough to kill your electrical system.
Does the stereo drop in volume when the fans kick on, or is it just quieter all the time now?
The battery in your truck has more than enough oomph to power your fans and stereo at full tilt for at least a few minutes.

B-Man,
The stereo is quieter all the time regardless if the fans are running or not. I almost have to turn the volume up twice as much now. I'll check the wiring. I had the fans "professionally" installed and I use the word professionally loosely because the installers had my high temp fan connected to come on with the A/C vs. the low temp fan. I have since corrected that problem myself and the fans are working properly.

I upgraded my alternator to a 130 amp and it works great. Got it off eBay for $59 and sold my old one for $20, heh. I did have to change the pully as the new one came with 6 rib and mine was 8 rib. Otherwise it was a 20 minute bolt on job.

Just be aware that there are other alternators out there that advertise 200 amps and they aren't all they are advertised to be

Be sure they didn't hit a "Mute" button or anything like that on your HU.
When the dealer fixed my squeaky seats, the guys working on it played with my stereo settings (bass cranked way up, etc.) and it took me a few minutes to put it back the way I like it.
Learned my lesson: I take the face with me now. Otherwise, I pull the fuses going to the amps.
Good luck and let us know what you find...
