weird problem with electrical

My alternator just went out last night and died on the way home. I managed to get it home and to the ford dealer next day. they verified the alternator and battery were bad replaced both and when they went to test the truck the O/D light was blinking and the air conditioning wont work, plus the truck will not pick up speed and sputters. Anyone have this prob, they checked everything and recalibrated the computer sys. just wanted to see if anyone knew something before i authorize them to diagnose this prob now. 2000 ford f-150 xlt 5.4L extra cab thx in advance

Just a guess but it sounds like the computer is out. They said they recalibrated it which should have meant that they started the truck and let it idle. Do you have a CEL to go with the blinking od light. Maybe the fuse is out for the computer and the truck is in the limp home mode. Sound pretty fishy. The alternator going bad will run the battery into the ground. They still should have been able to charge it . If the battery was a rock then the truck was running on the alternator umtil it maxed out and died. I replaced my battery w/ my alternator just because when the battery goes as flat as mine did, it never really recovers. they are not deep cycle batteries but are suppost to stay charged all of the time. If you run one way down a lot of the time they never fully come back. I would make sure that they did indeed replace the battery and the alt. and check fuses to see if someone didn't blow one hooking everything back up.
