Need Help Quick....Warranty about gone!
Need Help Quick....Warranty about gone!
Hello!
I have the Keyless Entry on my truck, with the keypad on Drivers door. A little explanation.....I have two sets of keys I carry on my key chain....my pickup and our 2000 Merc Mounty. To put these in my pocket sucks. So ever since I've owned the pickup, since new, I've always just tossed the keys on the floor and locked it up. Just using the factory code to unlock the door. No other code programmed.
Last Friday after work I used the code and got in and drove to the local Brewery for a few+ pints of Scottish Ale....strong stuff:D Locked it up as usual. Went to go home and the keyless entry didn't work. The dome light turned on as always but still wouldn't unlock. My buddy drove me home and I grabbed the ol'lady's key. The key fob on her chain to unlock the door worked fine. After I got my keys my key fob door clicker worked fine also. I don't have a clue what happened. Keyless entry still doesn't work. Tried reprogramming and still don't work.
My dilema is.....I have a Diablo Chip and my warranty for the pickup is over in about three weeks!
1. I would like the dealer to fix it on warranty.....do I gotta take the chip out first?
2. Does anyone know what happened or how I could fix it myself?
3. Should I take off the battery cable for an hour or so and try again?
Any help would really be appreciated. Like I say, my warranty is due to expire soon.
Thanks,

Check fuse #8 and #4. They both go to the RAP Module but I doubt that they are burnt. Is one of the number pads stuck?
Do you have your truck set so that the doors lock by them selves when you start off? If so does that still work?

BTW as a precaution always remove the chip when having the vehicle serviced under warranty.

Hi Jean Marc,
I'll check the fuses at lunch...anytime here.
Yes the doors still lock when starting off. Keypads don't appear to be stuck.
The only problem getting the chip out is removing the kick panel on the passenger side to get at the computer. Pert near broke it when I put the chip in. Is the an easier way to get at the computer or get the panel off?

DC,
I do not recommend this to anyone but my chip is not taped in. I can remove it anytime my son uses the truck just by reaching up under the dash by the kick panel.

Sounds like your keypad is the culprit. Since it's under warranty yet, take it in - the dealer tech can use a diagnostic tool to test each of the buttons on your keypad to determine if one has failed.
Another thing you could try is lock your vehicle then press the 1-2 button - does the keypad light up? If so, lock again and try the 3-4 button. Keep trying this with each button and you should be able to figure out if one of the buttons has gone bad (i.e. the keypad will not illuminate if the button is bad).

In my opinion I wouldn't worry about your chip there is NOTHING Ford can say about it. First there is no reason for them to be looking in the computer, and second regardless it has NO effect on your warranty for your keyless pad they will STILL have to cover it since the chip has NOTHING to do with the keyless pad...
Well, second thought...
Is the chip used in any fashion to increase the speed of your doors unlocking? If so they might hold that against you because your not suppose to add and performance enhancing devices to speed up the electrical door locks...

I agree with you that the chip has no bearing on the lockd but... I was just thinking that if they hook up a star tester to check for any GEM/RAP codes they might fish around for PCM codes while they are there.
I am out of warranty so my dealer can kiss my Canadain Donkey. But I have had to run down and rescue my truck once when I had it in for a leaf spring replacement. I forgot the chip in and the truck decided to buck/stumble on its way into the service bay and the tec ran a scan for codes. He got the infamous P0603 and decided to order a new PCM. Had to tell them I had a chip.

Hi Guys,
Problem solved. My card in my wallet which says FORD is the code for the Merc my wife has. Don't understand that. My little 7 yr old girl was telling me the code all along and I kept saying it wasn't right.
I took to the dealership, didn't mess with taking the chip out, and the told me the factory code. I said no, that that was the one for my Merc. The said ...."couldn't be....our scanner gives me the factory code no matter what was programmed"
I gotta start listening to my daughter....she has a way better memory than I do. I came home after her softball game and she goes...."watch Dad!" and she punched in the right code as pretty as you please.
Man I feel REAL stupid and like and *** for wasting you guys's time. Bought my girl a big old thick blizzard from Dairy Queen. I'll never doubt her again....maybe till she gets to be a teenager.
At least I think I only had three pints that nite. This brewery I hang out at makes some stout stuff tho.....7 1/2 % Scottish Ale I was drinking.....:beers:
Once again thanks for your help and sorry about the screwup:banana:

Many Ford & Mercury vehicles are produced on the same production line (i.e. Explorer and Mountaineer) and share parts (i.e. Body Security Module) - hence they all get the "Ford" keycode card......
