intermit no start
I have a 94 F150 that now has a intermitted starting problem. It seems like the truck is not getting fuel to stay running. I've replaced the fuel filter, pump and relay switch. Does anyone out there have any ideas? The truck just turned over to 107K.
Well it could be a lot of things, but there are a few you can check.
Vacuum Leak: This could be a biggie. Look for any lines that are off or cracked, and look cafefully at any elbows, etc for cracks. You can also spray carb/choke cleaner along the lines and joints while the engine is running (CAREFULLY), and listen for idle to change. If the idle pitch changes while you're spraying an area you probably found the leak.
MAF and O2: These sensors will mess up idle and start for sure. If you can get to an AutoZone they can put a machine on the truck to see if the computer is showing a code. The MAF sensor can usually be cleaned, the O2 sensor generally needs to be replaced.
2nd Fuel Pump: From what I've read older trucks like yours that have dual tanks have two fuel pumps, worth a look.
No Spark: Fouled plugs, worn wires, or a bad coil pack can really mess up how your truck runs.
Try the seach feature to check the archives for a similar problem, and maybe repost in the pre-1997 forum.
