Is this the plug that you were describing? The picture below is the wire coming out of the overhead console that my compass/temp plugs into. Only half of the wires are used.

Can anyone tell me what all the wires below are for? My main question involves which of these wires are the "ignition hot" and the "ground" wire. I really would think that one of these wires is also a reverse wire used when a factory mirror is installed. Any service tech help is appreciated. Also anyone that knows where I can find this type of information for myself would be appreciated.

 

I just put a 2002 compass/temp mirror into my 1998. The colors are:
Black-ground
Red-ign
White-reverse
the other two are for the temp sensor.

I'm quoting these colors from memory so they might be a little off. I'll check on it tonight when I get home.

If you can't find a wire chart just use a DVOM or even some wire, and a light bulb, then turn on the ignition and stuff to see which is which...

Please, let us know how this goes. I'm thinking about doing this in time...
