factory trailer plug
My 2001 F150 came with the tow package. My previous boat was a 4 pin trailer plug. My new boat trailer has 5 pin ( for trailer brakes) The 5th connection sees the reverse lights on the truck and disengages a selinoid for the disc brakes on the trailer. Problem.....
AT the harness, the 5th connection is dead. The fuse is good, and all lights work. We are pretty sure its the truck. (tested by good boat mechanic).
Is this an easy fix, or should I let it sit all day at a Ford dealer. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill

Look in the Fuse box under the hood, and see if there is a slot available for a small relay.. Try installing the relay (borrow another one nearby in the fuse box) and see if that works.
If so, then you have found it!!!!!!

The tow pkg comes with a plastic bag containing 2 or 3 relays and a wiring harness for connecting an electric brake control. Sounds like all or part of that is not installed. On my truck, this stuff was in the glove box on delivery and I had to install it.
I HAVE YOUR FIX I WAS JUST WORKING ON MY BUDDYS BOAT HE HAS A RANGER BOAT AND TRAILER THE REASON THE BACKUP LIGHT (CENTER PIN) WILL NOT WORK IS BECOUSE YOU NEED A 20 AMP HALF RELAY IN LOCATION #203 IN THE UNDER THE HOOD FUSE BOX NOT SURE HOW MUCH IT IS BUT ME AND MY BUDDY SPENT HALF THE DAY (TODAY) HUNTING THE PROBLEM DOWN AND THAT WAS IT PUT THE RELAY IN AND IT WILL SHOW 12 VOLTS ON THE ON THE BACKUP LIGHTS (CENTER PIN) AND THEN YOUR TRAILER WILL NOT LOCK UP THE BRAKES.
