Odometer and brake light Flashing

Today I noticed the odometer and brake light were flashing consistently. It wasn't in any type of sequence to indicate a code or anything just flash, flash, flash.......
It started up fine and seemed to drive fine, I didn't notice the flashing until I was a block from home. I parked it just in case, anyone have similar problems or have any ideas??? I haven't done anything to the truck lately. I had my outer tie rod break a few weeks ago and had it replaced but that can't have anything to do with it. Any help is appreciated.

My only explanation would be a loose electrical connection somewhere. JMO

On my new truck with the lights on the odometer and the lights around the radio flash while going down the road. This is a new 03 SD. I have checked the fuses and all conectors I could reach under the dash. If you find a solution let me know. It's starting to bother me.

eidaj2,

You could enter the HEC Dealer Test Mode:

To enter the HEC Dealer Test Mode, depress and hold the instrument cluster SELECT/RESET button and then turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. Continue pressing the SELECT/RESET button (five seconds) until tESt is displayed in the odometer. The SELECT/RESET button must be released within three seconds of the odometer displaying tESt to begin the dealer test mode. Depress the SELECT/RESET button to advance through the steps until dtc is displayed. Depressing the SELECT/RESET button will display any continuous DTCs stored. Post the results.

JMC,

Is there a way to enter HEC dealer test mode on my 2000 F-150? Thanks, Chris.

Sounds like this might be a classic case of GREMLINS.

Chanks7,

It is the same procedure as for eidaj2.
This works for 1999 and up trucks.

Chanks7,

dt C8Ad Displays hexadecimal coding of final manufacturing test date (used when requesting assistance from the hotline). Don't worry about that one.
The display has to show lower case dtc not lower case dt uppercase C

5284 is Oil Pressure Switch Failure. It is most likely the oil pressure sender that is faulty.

JMC,

Would the oil pressure switch failure cause my engine to stumble like a misfire?

No it would not. All it does is send a signal to the instrument cluster to show oil pressure.
