Clutch Interlock Switch F-150
Clutch Interlock Switch F-150
Hi
I have a 1989 F150 XLT Lariet, four speed standard.
I would like to disable the Interlock switch that makes you unable to start the truck without depressing the clutch way down. I have a Haynes book and it shows this switch mounted to the clutch master cylinder plunger rod. There is a connector there with allot of wires. The schematic shows a red and light blue wire for this switch. Do I snip this wire and ground it?
I would appreciate some help with this because this clutch is pretty hard to push down as far as you need to to start this truck.
Also I never try and start my other cars that have manual transmissions while they are in gear so I think I'll be safe.
Thanks
Don

I pulled out the schematics in the Haynes manual for the F-150 and solved this problem.
There are six wires on this plug in connector that contains the clutch interlock switch. The two closest to the Firewall are both Red and lite blue, the third wire needed here is the last wire in the connector furthest away from the firewall. This wire is gray and yellow. You need to jumper these three wires together to by pass the clutch interlock switch. You may need to trim back some of the plastic casing that this wire bundle is in to see all these wires.
Now I can just put the truck in neutral (its a 4 speed) and start it like a nomal old clunker. I know the feds are trying to moron proof trucks with these types of features but I try and not let morons use this truck.
