Ok Now you guys got me wondering, I have a 98 XLT and I have always liked autolamps, just never considered adding them to a vehicle I already owned until now. I went out and poped the cover off the dash to look for the relays and the jumpers that you all describe however I didn't find what you described. Dose anyone have a picture of what this should look like? This is what mine looks like.

Any ideas as to weather or not I can perform this mod?

speedy,

I do not see the proper connector in your dash. The design and components of the autolamp system changed in 2001, so yours would look different than the one in my truck anyway.

Sorry I cannot be of more help with yours.

I added it to my y2k model. Under that cover was a single gray connector stuck on the metal brace. I just plugged that into the amplifier/sensore, attached that to the new cover with the slots in it and put in the new light switch. 5 minute mod max.

Speedy, tough to tell from that picture, kinda wierd angle. I just did mine last weekend, 2002 SuperCrew XLT. Took all of 3 minutes to do the whole thing. On mine there was a wide grey connector underneath the stamped metal assembly. Fish around a bit. That's for the 2002 XLT, sorry, I don't know about other years/trim levels.

Ok, I got nosey and went to the local dealer and went through some of the tech manuals for my model year. The autolamp module for a 98 is buried down in the dash although it appears that the module is intalled with the wiring harness regardless of if you have autolamps. So it appears that all I need to do is change the switch and add the amplifier module. I would have ordered the parts but they quoted me some really bad prices so I got the part numbers and will be ordering them online later this week for less money.

Let you know if I'm right or not.

Cool

speedy46 -

Did you ever get your Autolamps working ?

I know someone with a '98 and it would be nice to know your status.

Thanks.

Don't worry I won't keep you waiting! As soon as I get a chance to try and make it work I will document it and post it for all to see.
