"Door Ajar" display, yet doors not "Ajar"

Problem:

Get into 99' F-150 truck. Close door. "Door Ajar" display is shown. Door locks do not automatically lock and the break/interior light stays on. Drive for 1/8 to 2 or 3 miles, then "Door Ajar" display goes off, locks lock and rear brake/interior light goes off. This does not occur every time, but is happening with more frequency. I did a search and found some info about "actuators" causing door locks problems.

Question:

What is causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks for any help.

OOPS! Did not see that thread. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FLAFONMAN!!!!!!! As soon as I get home from work, I will try it! THANKS AGAIN, for bringing that thread up. If you had not, I would have torn my door panels off to get to the actuators!

Raoul,

When is Steve going to give you your own forum? It would be nice to be able to go to one specific section and laugh so hard that...........your boss finds out that you have been goofing off all day long! hehe.............on second thought, you should not have your own forum!

Oh no, you mean I asked a "rookie" question! Maybe after about 4,000 posts I will know better .....but then again it is ME, so you never know..

........GOOD NEWS! It worked! I just sprayed WD-40 in the latches and PRESTO! Everything does what it should, AS SOON as I shut the door.

THat has got to be the easiest fix of all time! Thanks flafonman !

Thanks Raoul and medic for not humiliating me..... too much

Hehehe, don't feel too bad. I drove around like that for a few months, then took the latch out once I figured out thats where the switch is, cleaned it up & put it back together. Then a few vehicles a work had the problem & the maint. guy called the local Ford dealer. They told him about the WD-40 trick. Then he told me. Now who's the dumb ***?

Don't feel bad iron horse, here's my story...

I bought my 98 last year as an "impulse buy". I got a great price from a Chevy dealer that was hosting an auction open to the public. I loved the truck, but it had a strange problem; which of course I noticed after the fact. The interior lights didn't come on, EVER. Checked the fuses, frogged the relays, etc etc.

Joined F150Online and found a thread about the door latch and figured that mine was stuck in the opposite position. Did the WD-40 thing, no luck. In a fit of desperation I pulled the cover off the dome lamp, NO BULB!!! Same thing in every lamp inside, plus the cargo lamp.

The previous owner had the door latch problem and had solved it by removing every single bulb. He probably sold it thinking that it had some strange and expensive short in the system.

That's a great story, flafonman.

You should be thankful that was his problem with the truck.
He could have had squeaky brakes!
