Backup Light Upgrade
I recently installed some back up lights I bought from Advance/Discount Auto Parts. I think it's made by Pilot. Anyway, I installed them and they work fine, however, I would like them to be brighter. They are 55w halogen. Can they be safely upgraded to a higher wattage with a different bulb and higher capacity switch/wires? Thanks.
I am trying to find someone with a scanner to put the pictures of the lights on my gallery page.

In order to get full or more brightness out of your new backup lights - without frying your factory wiring - you'll have to wire a relay into the system for your auxillary lights. You're probably not getting as much power as you need to those new lights because they draw too many amps already. Installing higher wattage bulbs will just make the situation worse. You might also look into beam pattern. Sometimes it's not how much light - but where it goes.
