Tach Wires

I have a 99F150WS 4.6 . It did not come with a tach but I was wondering if the wiring harness already has the connection there? ''

If you do not have access to a shop manual for your year, or don't want the Autometer Tac, I can look it up in mine, but mine is for a 01, so the wiring could have changed.

Also I have not checked this pin number, to know if it is valid for the 01 year, or have any way of knowing if it is valid for your year.

Worth a look over at Autometer's web site to check it out.

Big unkown on this

A few things on clusters ( I leaned some of this as of late myself ).

The PATS system is located in the cluster. Unless you get the keys for the cluster ( and the cylinder for the ign ) then you would install it, tow it to the dealer so they could reprogram in the new pats stuff.

The other option for moving the PATS stuff is to un-do the module from behind the cluster and move it to your new cluster, but I have only heard of this when it is like cluster to like cluster, and I do not know if you can do this with a non-tach to a tach cluster, to keep your PATS info.

The last is the millage, this is stored on the cluster. If you want your millage put back into the new cluster, then the cluster would need to be sent to a Authorized Ford cluster repair center, to have the new millage put into it, and then shipped back ( this is the one I just learned, it is not programmable by a NGS or WDS machine as I used to think it was..jefflaws corrected me on this ).

So with that said, you might be cost and pain ahead by getting either the Autometer tach in 2-1/16" format and usign the steering column pod, or getting a 3" Tach and a single A-pillar Pod and mounting it there.

Sorry for the bad news..wish I knew another way to head you off in, maybe lefflaws will be along to let you know if the module would be moved between cluster types, that part I don;t have any clue on.

The pats part of the cluster is on the circuit board that all to gauges plug into also, so moving the circuit board would also leave you without a tach.

Just about any place that sells Autometer stuff can order it for you.
I have used Summit, and 2 local speed shops one is LS1 Speed inc they are right in the next town and have stuff for Ls.
I got the O2 pigtail for my A/F gauge from them, so I did not have to hunt around the PCM harness for the wire.

The Steering column pod holds 2-1/16" gauges.
Autometer # 15004 for automatics / #15005 for manuals.

The A-pillar pod :
Dual 2-1/16" 15303
Single 2-1/16" 15304
Single 2-5/8" 15305

Full pillar pods, that require removal of the oh ***** handle :
Dual 2-1/16" 17304
tripple 2-1/16" 17305

The pods come in abs black plastic, so you might need to paint or dye them to match your interior. I just got some interior paint with flex added, from paintscratch.com.
The logical one would seem to be the steering column pod, but this does slightly block the view of the odometer the way I have my seat and steering wheel.

For the Tachs the Z series matches the stock black guages pretty close, these are what I went with.

The Tachs available are :
2697 : 5000 rpm tach 2-1/16"
2698 : 8000 RPM tach. 2-1/16"

If you are going to put a white overlay on your cluster, then the white tachs are:
Artic White series:
2-1/16" 7k rpm tach : 1397

Silver face :
2-5/8" 8,000 rpm : 3707

These are the Autometer one that I can find straight away in my 2001 catalog with the 2002 adendum.
Don't crap yourself when you see the cost of a 2-1/16" Tach, ther are costly, when compared to the ricer big-as-your-head Tachs

When you decide, think if you want to put in another gauge before you order.
Some add in Tranny temp gauges, oil pressure / temp gauges, or A/F gauges. So maybe thinking out the gauge layout is in order before getting a pod.

BTW : if you are looking to do the white overlay to make it look like an L, wait until you seen the Lunar gauge costs, they are out of this world for what they get for them, but the L owners buy them up so they match the stock cluster. Just another hint if you are looking at the white overlay. The other white optoin, is the Phantom series, but again the cost is up there.

Good luck in getting what you want.

None at this time.
I put the column pod in to see if I liked it, in the raw black color.
This weekend I am taking it out, and using a gauge cup to hold the A/F while I paint the column pod, I just got my interior paint on Wed, so I need to start in with that project next.

I never took pictures, as it looked really cheesy a black cap on the steering wheel column, in a med graphite interior

Beefcake posted his at a place that sells them.
These pics will show you what the pillar pod, and the steering column pod would look like installed.
