Help after Getting a remote start
I just had a remote start put on. One thing that I didn't like that I didn't notice untill the next day was that they didn hook the horn up to the unit.
I looked on their website and they said that it may require relays.
Can anyone give me some info on hooking this up?
The unit is an Avital 3200

I have an Avital. It works great.
Okay, I think the output from the Avital unit for the horn is (-). The good news is that the Ford horn switch is also (-). You shouldn't need any relays.
I have looked up the wiring diagrams & found the following for 97-02 F-150's for the horn wire you are looking for:
97 & 98: dark blue wire in steering column harness
99 - 01: dark blue in brown (6 pin) connector behind the driver side dash
02: yellow / light green in steering column harness. (I'm not sure if this one in (-) or (+) so you'll have to get out your test light & check.
Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info.
Just a quick question about this. If the wire is - then I would just splice the wire from the avital directly to it correct because the remote start has a common ground?
If I need to check that wire then I just find a common ground and touch that wire and honk that horn and I should get a negative reading?
Sorry for the simple questions, but I just want to be sure.

First, find the installation manual for your Avital unit. Make sure the default setting is set for horn. Then, make sure the wire from the Avital unit for the horn is in fact (-).
As for the horn wire, get a test light. Find a (+) and then poke the test light into the selected wire. Now honk the horn. Does the test light light up when the horn is honking? If it does then the horn is (-) switched. Now you can just splice the wire from the Avital unit into your Ford horn wire.
If you find the Avital unit wire to be (+) and the Ford wire to be (-) or the other way then you will need to use a relay. This will require a bit of electrical knowledge. I would reccomend finding a friend to help or returning to the shop that installed the unit.

Well I trend to hook this up yesterday and I could not find the wore for the horn. There are so many wires coming out of the steering column. If anyone has any help on the correct wire for the horn let me know.
check with www.bulldogsecurity.com for some help on the wiring info. hope this helps. Most FORDs are negative horn trigger. I will suggest however to use a siren because there had been recalls on the horns going out after a few false alarms. Some dealers who are aware of this problem tend to not warranty the horn because of "excessive use" or simply put, you added an alarm to it. I know this from experience. Hope this helps.
