Opinions on alarms/remote starts
I been shopping around looking for a remote start/alarm. I'm not sure what type to get ot to stay away from? I want to still have the keyless entry, but I also want a decent security system. With the alarm I want to have some protection for anything that is in the bed. So guys, tell me what you think? Thanks. Eric
I had the Clifford Matrix (insert model number here) and really liked it. I had start and keyless on my last truck and you could upgrade to other features like proximity sensors, sirens and remote window down but I didnt get all the add-ons. In all I was very satisfied with the system and am having another on put on my new truck.
I also have the Avaital system on my wifes Camry and it starts, unlocks and pops the trunk. This too has been very good in the past 2 years I have had it.
Note, the above systems were installed at Best Buy and were each less then $300.00

DEI makes some good systems. I have the Python alarm/starter and it works very well.
The one thing that to me is very important is to not defeat your PATS system. Some of the remote start systems permanently defeat PATS and require you to leave one of your keys hidden in a module in your truck. If you use the DEI products (some others may as well), the transponder bypass module (555F) only bypasses PATS during the remote start sequence. All other times it remains as it was from the factory. A battery back-up for the alarm would also be nice to have.
