Question Help with a "loose wire"!!!

I have a problem...When i have my four ways on, they dont blink at a constant speed...I just noticed this today. Also, the wipers are slowing down, and then dying after 5 minutes of use. I thought maybe it was the wiper motor, but i also noticed that when i roll down my window, or roll my window up, the lights dim, and the voltmeter drops right down. It's a brand new battery. I was thinking maybe the alternator? Any help would be great...i'm 16, and it's my daily driver...Thanks!

Cool

You need to start with some basic electrical troubleshooting.

Check all of the large wiring going from the battery to the main fuse block. All connections should be clean and tight.

Battery terminals should be clean and tight. It does not take a lot of corrosion to cause havoc with a 12 VDC system.

You didn't mention whether the abnormal blinking and wiper activity occur when operated on battery only or with the truck running. Just because the battery is new does not mean it doesn't have a defect...

When the truck is running, you should measure 13.8 - 14.4 VDC across the battery. It's not super important where in this range the voltage is, as long as it is in this range. Be sure to measure this with a good electrical load going, such as the lights on, A/C and interior blower running, wipers on, etc. If the voltage drops when you activate all of this with the truck running, the alternator and it's associated wiring / circuitry is suspect. Don't know if your truck has an external voltage regulator, but if it does it should be checked as well.

Most auto parts stores have the means to test alternators and batteries at no charge to you. (No pun intended )

Good luck and let us know what you find...
