Removed SuperChip gotta a question?

I have a 98 F150 V6 and I removed the SuperChip which I have been using for the past two or three years. I disconnected the negative battery cable, turned the lights on to drain all power, removed the SuperChip, let it sit for 30 minutes or so then hooked the battery back up.

Now what I want to know does doing all this remove all traces of the chip being on my truck besides the physical scratches the chip made on the contacts. I read that you need to properly clear the PCM is this how you do it?

Thanks.

Yep, you got it. Your computer has been cleared, or reset. There will be no traces of the superchip other then the physically ones you mentioned (scratched contacts).

You may or may not have noticed that your truck ran a bit crappy while it relearned its program. That happens anytime the computer is reset, by removing power (battery cable removed for a few minutes).

Hi IM,

Yes, you can clear the PCM using that method.

You will get a P1000 code upon scanning right after you do a battery disconnect, that's no big deal, and won't cause any check engine light, it simply means that the PCM has had power interrupted recently, that's all.

If you are asked about that during a service visit, just let them know that you were recently working on the vehicle, replacing fuses, etc., or whatever you were doing, and you disconnected the battery to do that work.

Good luck!
