New truck
Hey guys
Getting my new truck next week, and yes its an upgrade. Going to a 2003 F150 supercab 5.4l 4x4 FX4. Black in color too. very sharp! Anyways, what are some good mods I can perform to this truck? The dealer says "no" on the chip, but they said Intake and exhaust is ok. Whats the best of both to get?
Thanks

Hi 01F15054,
Congratulations on your new vehicle!
By the way, your dealer cannot void your warranty or deny a warranty claim because of a chip, by law (and specifically, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) you have the right to do anything you want to your vehicle and keep the warranty fully intact, as long as your modifications do not actually cause *damage* to the vehicle. That is the actual standard, and what your rights under the law actually are. You can read more about your rights here:
http://www.sema.org/fedleg/warranty
In other words, it's not up to your *dealer* to say what can and cannot be done to a vehicle, as they have no such right or authority. That's why we have very specific laws governing *exactly* that, the use of aftermarket parts and their affect on warranty, so it's not open to somebody's interpretation who is getting paid far less to do work under warranty than what dealerships make when the customer pays out of pocket. And *that* is at root the majority of the time when dealers try to deny warranty claims, the fact that they make much more money for doing the *exact* same work when the customer has to pay out of pocket than what Ford will pay them.
By all means, do whatever makes you feel most comfortable with your new vehicle, just as everyone should, we wouldn't want you to do anything you didn't feel comfortable about! Just don't ever let a dealer or anyone else dictate what you can and cannot do to your own vehicle (it's *your* vehicle, not Ford's, and not the dealer's), as they have no such authority. Those rights are determined by *law,* not by the automaker, or by their agent, and has already been thru the courts and decided long ago.
OK, now to answer what you actually asked..................
To answer your question about which intake & exhaust actually delivers the best results, the Air Force One intake kit makes the most power and is made of the highest quality materials as well, aircraft-grade T304 stainless steel that is mirror polished by hand. On the exhaust side, here you have to be *very* careful, as not only is there a definite "best" in terms of the results, but so many exhaust changes actually *hurt* performance by reducing torque below 3000 rpm at any throttle position that this is one of the most important areas not to make a mistake.
On the exhaust side, the Magnaflow cat-back system will do the best job, and was the *only* cat-back system we tested that actually showed positive torque numbers all the time, at any throttle positon or rpm, and it also gained the most peak HP, even more than true-dual systems.
So it's Air Force One for the intake system to get the air in, and the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system to get the air out, in terms of the actual best HP, torque, & performance improvement results.
We also carry all of those parts too, if you'd like to give us a call sometime & check out one of our combo intake & exhaust deals, etc., our contact info is just below & we'll be happy to help.
Good luck with your new truck!

I have 16,000 mi. on my 01 and have the extended Ford warrenty. I also have a K&N FIPK, cat back Flowmasters, and now a Traditional superchip. None of these mods. will adversly affect you truck...they are all improvments designed for your vehicle. Like Mike says, Ford cannot revoke your warrenty unless there is proof that the aftermarket product was the direct cause of your problem. For all the thousands of people that have this combo of performance parts, I haven't heard of any problems.
Good luck with your desision. I'd go for it. Mike is knowledgable, and prompt getting back to you with answers, so I will be dealing with him from now on with future mods.

Which Magnaflow muffler do I want? The XL Turbo? Round or oval?
From what I see here: http://shop.ivalueinternet.com/bigex...gory_id/50.htm I have a few options
Whats the best choice? How about the XL turbo 9x4 Oval with Dual 2.50" pipes?

Heres what I have so far.
2x Magnaflow 14" SI/SO mufflers (SS)
1 Magnaflow X-Pipe 2.5" in, 2.5" out, 12" Long
Hows that sound? Shouldnt lose any down low power right?

Hi 01F15054,
Though we do go over a lot of things here, this is one topic where this really isn't the way (nor is it the place) to try to sort out individual exhaust components.
There are far too many variables & choices just in the 2 components you listed alone (just in 14" SISO's & X-pipes there are many choices), to say nothing about all the other considerations such as the type of sound desired, the vehicle's configuration, how it's being used, and all the other things that need to be considered when you're putting together a true dual custom exhaust system if you want to avoid expensive mistakes.
If you don't know the characterisics of each component from that manufacturer, along with what is actually involved and required in opening up flow and keeping exhaust velocity high enough to avoid torque loss specifically in this vehicle, then you don't stand much of a chance of getting the kind of results you could and should, unless you just happen to get lucky.
If you would like help from someone who actually knows these vehicles and the Magnaflow line extremely well so you can actually choose the correct exhaust components for your application, your current and any proposed future modifications & what you want to achieve (from sound to power characteristics), give us a call & we'll be happy to go over all of that with you in detail.
