Super Chip Micro Tuner Correct Speed?
I'm new here and would like to start out by saying this is a Great Site with lots of Helpful advise form knowledegable people.
Here's my question- My wife is buying me a super tuner for x-mas ( she just doesn't know it yet ). I have a 2002 5.4L 4x4 Screw with the FX4 and tow package, 355 LS. My tire size is 265-70-R17 stock. When I use the tuner to set up my truck will I have to keep changing my tires size and checking my speed to make sure it's right? Or will this just be a plug and play then drive mod. Thanks for your help..

I don't know if I completely understand your question, but if you are all stock, then plug and play. Its seems to be a cool little device, I have one but I still have quarter tank of 87. Man its hard to burn gas fast when you want to!
i just read an article in the 'truckin' magazine that said the tuners adjust for tires size...i dunno if this is on all models and i dunno if you have to manually enter information.
it in the january 20003 ed. on page 21 it and advertisement for hypertech power programer 3 its for the dodge truck but i assume its the same for the ford truck and it says:
"speedometer/odometer readings
Instantly corrests the speedometer and odometer readings when non-stock tires sizes are installed (as required by law)"
Hope This Helps....

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'm going to dubble check my speed with another vehical. I thought it would read my VIN # and know what my tire size is and I would not need do anything. Guess I will find out when I program my truck, If it make me put my tire size in.
Micro Tuner and Tire Size

Regarding the tire size, you have to measure your tires from top to bottom and enter this size. For example, in my situation I have 285/75/16 tires which measure 32.85 according to the factory. [I originally had 265's on the vehicle] But when I entered as close to this size as I could, 32.75, into the Super Tuner my speedo was off by several miles per hour. I used my radar gun to check it.
I then used a measuring tape to measure the tires from top to bottom and came up with 32 inches. Compression of the tires occurs due to weight of the vehicle. I then entered 32 inches into the tunner but my speedo was still off by 1-2mph.
Because I like to be accurate I then started experimenting . I found if I entered 31.75 inches into the Super Tuner my speedo was right on at all speeds. Once again, I used my Doppler radar gun to confirm the accuracy.
In addition, the tuner allows you to enter tire size in quarter inch increments so you should be able to get your speedo to read very accuarate. The hard part for you would be to confirm the speedo as you may have problems locating a radar gun to check the accuracy. Maybe you could ask one of you local law enforcers to assist you in this endeavor.
Hope this helps.

Hi WhiteWolf,
With the stock tire size, it's just plug & play.
That is the STOCK tire (265/70/17) that comes with a 4X4 and the Off Road package (FX4), so you don't have any tire size change to begin with. That function to allow you to correct the speedometer is ONLY for use when you have actually CHANGED the height of the tire, hence the term "CORRECT the speedometer."
This feature s only for those who have CHANGED tire sizes from stock and now need to correct the speedometer because the tire size change threw it off.
Also, on everything else the Micro Tuner can change, remember that you do not HAVE to go into the details of setting your own shift ponts, etc. either, that is all there only for those who actually have a real need to fine-tune because of various CHANGES. We highly recommend NOT playing with setting your own shift points, etc., as we've already done that, just accept the defaults at each parameter & let the Superchips tuning do it's thing. Then after driving it for awhile, if you feel you want to play with those parameters, at least you'll have some drive time so you know what it's doing "out of the box," otherwise you have nothing intelligent to base those kinds of changes on.
So don't worry about your tires, you don't need to change that unless you actually change tire sizes to something that has a different tire height from stock. Just plug it in, follow the instructions & 8-10 minutes later you'll be ready to rock
