Computer Software ?

Hey guy,

Does any one know of any computer software/hardware where i can hook up a laptop to the onboard Pc of a 2002 f-150 4.2 and get real time specs?

also is there such a program that can be loaded on a laptop and can be used kinda how a superchip would be used? where you canupload special programs and switch between them liek for nos premium gas and refular gas? kind alike a tri flip chip?

and also some software that can be used to control nitrous?

Thanks

Yep,
name is AutoTap and it is supposed to be pretty freakin sweet.

AutoTap

This software does realtime analysis on hundreds of parameters. Hooks into your OBDII port using the supplied cable. Its around $289 for the good version but that is quite considering what all this SW does.

Mike Troyer from Performance Products sells it and would probably be able to answer all your questions regarding the software. Below is Mike's contact info.

Not presently for these vehicles. Only through tuning a "Chip." Think about how dangerous that would be for everyday people. You could wack one of these motors very quickly if you don't know what your doing...

There is the Microtuner device that is an OBDII code scanner as well as an adjustable computer. It does allow you to adjust some parameters but I don't think that is what you are looking for. It doesn't hook to a laptop and can't graph data parameters in real-time.

well i think that would be a good idea if there was some program that could do that....

it would kinda be like a lot of chipsin one program where it has a lot of presets liek for different gas and nos and blowers and what not and then have it to where its user programable and stuff....

well can you have the laptop and the chip hooked up at the same time?

also if there a program to control nitrous?

thanks again

Hazard269 - Here is a post I had a few days ago under the Engines section. I just orederd the AutoTap version with enhanced codes. KYFordFreak has a nice spreadsheet which compares all the differnet Mfr's products. Call Mike T. for the details on these units.

I asked Mike T the question about having the software hooked up with the chip in and he said you can with no problem. However, it may have difficulty reading some of the extended parameters. The software looks incredible though.

Hi Chris,

Give us a call when you get a chance and we can go over all of that in detail with you, if you like.

Briefly, yes, you can use Autotap with a chip present, & still get to see the pertinent real-time data, such as engine sensor data and things like timing, fuel trims, and much more, as well as the ability to do data-logging, etc.

Hi CHris,

You're very welcome, anytime.

I don't know if this may be of any interest to you or not, but one nice thing about Autotap is that it doesn't take a lot of PC horsepower to run. It has Windoze & DOS versions, so you can use older lower-powered laptops with it if you're shopping for a laptop on a really tight budget, a $150 486 unit will do it.

For datalogging at the drag strip in a fast truck (say, 14's & quicker), a PIII @ any speed unit or faster is best to keep up with the throughput of the latest version of Autotap, as you can log a few more datapoints quicker with a faster processor. That aside, it really doesn't take much processing power to run Autotap for all it's other uses, an older 486 machine would be fine.

Mike I have an old Toshiba 486 laptop that I am trying to find something to use it for. Is there any software that will work with the OBD-I computers?
