Cool Nope! She's a KEEPER!

She's a little hesitant about the money, BUT I think she the same as me and can't wait to drive it! I only get to drive it about 20% of the time! I'm in my '87 Riceburner Trooper. But if I'm a good boy, she let's me have it on the weekends...only if she comes along!

Smile GOSH? Help Mike, can't remember all that you told me...

It's an ignition upgrade...that boosts you spark and electronic effeciancies... can't spell.
I've been reading about these Ford ignition systems breaking down around 12-20K...help Mike>
Sorta, like when I mod'ed my first engine; ole friend of mine, said that you you put 1K in that engine and don't have anything to "light it's FIRE" with. That was back in '79 (Chevy 350 Blazer) and I used the MALLORY HighPro ignition system. Sorry...that's the best I can do

Speaking of Metco Motor Solutions I'm forunate to live in SC where they are located. Have 02 HD just had lower pulley 6 lb boost, air intake, diablo 2 stage chip and lowered 2" in rear and check out their crankcase vent, makes opening the hood a nice site. Really made a difference in what I already thought was a good package.

Hi John,

The ignition Plasma Booster is the only product currently on the market for the COP ignition that works, and actually increases power output on these Ford (and other) COP (Coil-On-Plug) ignition systems and increases actual engine power. MSD's Stacker 8 (the only other product ever offered for COP) is still problem-plagued and ships only very sporadically, with high return rates, and is much more expensive as well as having been pulled completely off the market some time back. MSD said at SEMA they were shipping again, but they've failed to deliver a single unit to us yet. So the Plasma Booster is is the only thing working as of now, and is a very easy installation, actually. One master ground, and then on connection to each coil pack and you're done in about 30 minutes or so (sometimes 45 minutes on a Lightning)

It's too invovled to really cover here (give us a call & I'll be happy to go over that with you, John), but basically what it does is to increase the current being sent to the spark plug by recapturing the lost secondary current, and by virtue of that it increases power, and has some potential to improve fuel mileage a tad as well.

These COP coil packs drop output, in addition to not being very strong to begin with, so the COP ignition system certainly needs help to get the most from any modifications. They can't even fire the factory plugs set to stock gap specs in a bone-stock Lightning properly, we generally have to close up the gap on them, and always have to if there are any modifications, especially raised boost.

We're not advising increasing spark plug gap in general with this device, though that is probably very do-able, we just haven't had time to really do a significant amount of gap-testing with it yet, so far it's been performance & ET testing. I did increase the gap on our Lightning by .005, and so far it's still pulling strong & hard all the way to redline in every gear (except 4th, simply because we haven't gone over 140 mph with it yet!), something it absolutely can't do without the Plasma Booster, so we're very happy with the results.

So we now have a solutin for these COP ignitions, finally!

Anyone who wants details, please give us a quick call & we'll get you all the specifics & pricing, etc.

Mike?

Mike,

So I assume it's for the 5.4 only? Will it work on my 4.6?

Hi John,

The Plasma Booster is currently available for all models of the F-150 with any V8 having the COP ignition, so that would include 4.6 too, but only in the later model years that have the COP ignition system. That started in the 2000/2001 model year timeframe for the 4.6, whereas the 5.4 has always been COP from Day 1.

The Plasma Booster is also available in versions for the 4.6 motors in the Crown Vic, the Mustang, Lincolns, etc. with the Coil-On-Plug ignition system.

So no, it's not a 5.4-only part, it's available for many FoMoCo's w/V8's that have the COP ignition system.

Thanks Mike

Mike,

I've got std 4.6, No COP, just 2 coil packs o the front of the engine. Any ideas for that? I know MSD or Accel makes packs.

Hi John,

Yes, we have a very effective upgrade package for the non-COP 4.6's, we use the Accel plug wires & coil packs, we also stock the MSD coil packs as well. The Accel and the MSD coil packs for the 4.6 are identical in their performance characteristics & power gains, and the Accel unit is a few dollars cheaper, so most people go with the matched set of Accel plug wires & coil packs.

Our full ignition upgrade for the 4.6 non-COP trucks is the Accel wires & coil packs along with a set of Denso Iridium spark plugs. We also do combos on coil packs & plug wires, or wires & plugs, etc. as well as the individual components, whatever each individual truck actually needs, of course.

The 4.6 with the conventional ignition (plug wires & a pair of coil packs, one for each cylinder bank) actually sees more power gain than a 5.4 w/cop does, as the COP is a little bit better from the factory due to no real spark plug wires, though it too still needs help. With our complete upgrade, there is as much as 14 HP over brand new stock components available, and when replacing older factory components, say, with 40K miles on them, the power gain is easily 20 HP.

Just give us a shout if you'd like to go over the numbers, etc.

Thanks Mike

Just did new plugs and wires. Motorcraft Platinums and 9mm Motorsprt wires. Would i still benefit from adding the packs? I might order those at the same time I get the tuner in Jan. We're on target for our full 10% bonus , unless the bottom drops out in the next 3 weeks. Are they around $60 or so a piece?

Hi John,

Yes, you absolutely will benefit from the coil pack replacement alone, even with the plugs & plug wires being new, the coil packs are very important, as they determine how much current is sent down the plug wire.

On the pricing, once again, we can't go into that here on the boards, F-150 Online policies pohibit any specific pricing being discussed here, so you'll want to give us a call or shoot us an email for that info please John, & thanks for understanding on that.

Mike,

I totally understand the policies. Just wondering if I was in the ballpark. On a conference call right now. Wonderful Friday at work. I'll shoot you and e-mail
