Superchip/Computer Lock Up?
Mike T. -
Here was the scenario:
1. I went out to the garage Sunday afternoon to move the truck outside and I could not get it started. I thought this was strange since I drove it quite a bit on Saturday. The truck turned over, but failed to fire.
2. I went through the customary checks for blown fuses, etc. and couldn't find anything wrong.
3. I next checked to make sure I had the gearshift in park, and not off center, as I know that sometimes if it is off slightly, the truck will not start.
4. After all this, I decided to remove the chip itself to see if this was the problem. I followed the directions that came with the chip, removed the chip, hooked the battery back up, and then started the truck. "It fired right up?!"
5. I was now thouroughly confused! So...I decided to re-install the chip. I followed the install directions, cleaned the male computer contacts with rubbing alcohol, re-taped the chip back to the computer, got in, and the truck fired right up!...Go figure!
Mike, I've had the chip for almost 2 years and "NEVER" had a single issue with it. It has performed flawlessly. The truck has 17,000 miles on it. I've removed the chip prior to taking the truck into the dealer for service, re-installed it afterwards and never experienced anything like this.
Do you have any idea what might have happened? It almost seemed to act like a personal computer when it will lock up when you try and perform too many commands too quickly.
Any suggestions or past experience from you or anyone else would be appreciated...
Thanks

I'm not an expert like Mike T. but disconnecting the battery might have reset something in the computer and allowed it to run as normal. Do you have any driveability problems with it now?

No. Everything seems to be normal, which is why I'm a bit baffled by the whole thing. Had I experienced problems on Saturday I would have attributed today' problems to that. I simply went out to the garage, tried to start the truck and got nothing.
Maybe I did not turn the key fully, and it sent a disrupted signal to the computer or something?!
Hopefully Mike T. can shed some light on this Monday.
