Question Fordchip or Superchip For the 4.2?

Well all my **** in my truck got stolen friday...and if insurance covers it i think i may go ahead and get a superchip...is this truely the best chip to get with the 4.2l 6cyl.?

who else makes chips? the onyl ones ive really seen are the superchips and fordship which one would you choose for the 4.2?

I was wondering if you could put a toggle switch somehow on the super chip to where it turns it off...does anyone know anything about this?

also kinda ot for this forum but would it be worth it to switch to limited switch with out changin the gears at this point in time?

Yeah I heard alot of people got stuff stolen out of their trucks. I just park i nthe neighborhood by the mobile classrooms. Nobody ever messes with those cars.

i would go with the Superchip, mine has been awesome.

about a Limited -Slip rearend, do you have any traction problems right now. If you are going to change the gearing later on, I would do it all at once.

I park in the neighborhood right down the street infront of someones house. There is a cop car that is always on the street, he must work a night shift and sleep during the day.

Everyone has traction on rainy days LOL. I went from 235/75R15 tires to 275/60R15s. It is much better in the rain, but if I want it to I can spin em all the way through first gear, but I really have to get into it. I just raced a new GMC extended cab short bed truck with the small v-8. I think he said 4.7L or something, he had dual exhaust. The street weas wet, and I just rolled into the throttle and I had him by about 2 truck lengths at 45. He just asked what I had done to my truck, I said a few things LOL, he said he never losses to F-150s. Well I have to give the credit to my tires!!!

Hi Chris,

Well, the Superchip is the only chip for your V-6 that tunes each vehicle individually according to PCM software revision, tunes at all throttle positions for maximum HP & torque, and is still 50-state emissions certified. No other chipmaker offers all of that, only Superchips.

The bottom line is that Superchips has been tuning these 4.2 V-6's longer than any other chipmaker, so they've certainly got plenty of experience with that platform in any configuration imaginable, from mild to wild. We have 4,.2 V-6 F-150 owners running every configuration ranging from the Superchip being the only modification all the way to supercharged and nitrous injected with a built motor, ported heads, stiff camshaft & everything in between. We've always had great results with their tuning on these 4.2 V-6's.

The Fordchip is a good chip (though it's not emissions certified), it is generally a well tuned chip for the 4.2 V-6. I think realistically you'd be happy with either one, and those are the 2 best chips to chose from for the 4.2 V-6 F-150's.

Our preference is for the Superchip, as we have years & years of successful track record with them.

Yes, we can set you up with a toggle-switch type of Superchip, so you could either flip back and forth between the stock program and the Superchip tuning, or you could have it set up with 2 different performance programs, like if you wanted a dual octane configuration, or a street & strip type of setup, etc.

Feel free to give us a call to go over this in more detail, & sorry to hear about those damned thieves, I know that's got to have frosted your cahones!

Good luck with the insurance company,

Hi Chris

Sorry to hear you got ripped off. I know the feeling.

Not sure if you got answer on switch? was that a switch to turn the chip on/off? If so, i dont think thats available. You would have to remove the chip for off and reinstall for on.

Miket. was talking about the flipchip...does have a switch..but its used to switch between the 2 programs you choose.

Good luck...and keep it on the road. OT

yea i was looking for somethin to turn it on/off bc i would get the reg program for 93 octane and i wouldnt really need anything but the stock program for 89 octane so i was wondering if you could just turn it off....

but i may go ahead and get a flip chip one with 93 octane on one side and a program for nos on the other.... not too sure but depending what i do for my stereo and what i get paid for its a good possibility.

Hi Chris,

Well, there's always your local Ford dealership, they can order you a new replacement carpet for any of these cabin configurations. As for aftermarket sources, there are always a few manufacturers making cheaper stuff, and maybe even some better replacement stuff, but I haven't done any real shopping for carpet replacements, so other than the obvious place like a J.C.Whitney, I wouldn't know where to steer you. You can always take a look in any of the Sport Truck magazines, I'm sure you'll find sources for the carpet in there. Try looking in the usual rags, like "Truckin'," and "Street Truck" also.

Good luck!

i do have some family members in the parts business and they maybe able to get the stuff for me with a 20% discount...so i may just go ahead and do that...i wa just wondering if some places may have it cheaper.

also im starting to get some of the isn money as far as the auto i gotta see if i get the rest from home owners and if they do i will be calling sometime this week or as soon as i find out and discuss some things about the chips.
