Mike T. a moment of your time,please.
I was just wondering (and I realze they wouldn't be out on the market if they did, but...) does installing a chip put any extra wear on the stock tranny/ enines? How about long term operation? I am still interested in a Superchip, but I have to be comfortable with the long term aspect, too.
Any imput appreciated.
Thanks, again.

MF150,
I've had my Hypertech for 50k plus and no issues. As with anything overtime the perceived impact may not be as great as when it was new, but I know it still performs better than stock.

Hi MF
Till MikeT. gets here...just some thoughts to pass on. This is the only chip i've tried.
I have schip(flipchip)from MikeT. at PP. I installed it after the a/t was fixed under FW @16500mi.
A/T is still working just fine at 32,000/2 1/2yrs after repair. Perhaps you'll get update as to what this schip does to the shifting of the a/t and why it might help to prolong its life. Maybe the schip is helping or maybe i just got a super good rebuilt a/t?
Manual..no change..but thats a plus. lose more hp with a/t.
I forgot the tech. details...so will leave to others.
The only performance problem i've had...accidentally (not knowing) flipped switch...gradual power loss told me something was wrong. Geez!
Been lucky i guess..no real problems from bad gas. Thats something i worked at to see what worked best for me and my ride. Just that alone was interesting to me because of differences in brands. 87/91+ oct.
IMO...probably what might hurt (engine etc) the most might come from how hard/abusive one drives their truck, stock or modded?
In my case i do tow...so thats hard on the drive train. Does the chip add to increased wear because of extra power/tq?
Again...that may depend on how you drive/maybe not? I'm not sure.
Good luck...OT

Hi mg150,
Excellent question, and extremely important, we agree.
What I'd like to say first of all is that over the years, what we have found in general is that what affects the service life of the powertrain far more than just an engine's peak potential power output when pushed to the limit is how that vehicle is actually operated and maintained in the real world.
To answer your question specifically, there is nothing in the Superchip that contributes to increased wear in the engine, and the effect on automatic transmissions is just the opposite, the Superchip actually increases the service life of the friction materials (the bands & clutches) inside the automatic transmission, thanks to the reduction of slippage achieved by the program changes.
Superchips have been around about 20 years now since they invented the performance chip, and we're the olderst distributor of Superchips in America, serving many end users and other dealers. In all the years we've been handling their products, we've had *many* customers rack up 150K miles, 200K miles, as much as 300K+ miles in these F-150's with their Superchips, and in all of that we have not seen any pattern of increased wear, failure or decreased service life.
To give you an idea, we also tune many law enforcement vehicles, from undercover ultra-high horsepower turbo cars to the typical Crown Vic state police county & city police department patrol cars that are so popular, to some foreign diplomatic service vehicles, and in those applications their dependabilty and reliability are many times a matter of life and death.
To give you an idea about these late model F-150's, you can easily install parts to achieve power gains of 100+ horsepower and more, and still have a normal service life *if* you modify, operate and maintain the vehicle *properly*.
The bottom line is, you will not have any increased wear or decreased service life from using the Superchip long term.
Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over that in a bit more detail, these are expensive vehicles & we share your concerns, as we own, drive & modify these F-150's too!

Mike, a friend has an MR2 Toyota. It's a 92-3 and he is looking for a chip. He does not have a turbo, yet. Would you recomend a superchip for him? He is interested too.

Hi mf150,
Actually we used to do those MR2's, but Superchips recently dropped doing all imports (we used to cover everything from Ferarri's to Maserati's to Mercedes & BMWs as well as all the Euro & Asian turbo cars & more) to focus on more of the American automaker applications. As each model year goes by, especially ever since OBD-II, it takes a lot more R&D to get these applications done each model year, so Superchips US has concentrated on the American automakers this year.
What your friend should do is pick up a copy of the magazine Sport Compact Car, as in that rag he'll find a veritible who's who of suppliers for that application to supply just about anything he could want.
Sorry we couldn't help your friend directly, but have him check out that magazine & he'll find a number of performance upgrades for that vehicle.
