which chip for 4.6 w/ 5spd

I am interested in a chip for my truck and need a little advice on which chip I should use. This is what I have 2000 f-150, 4.6l, 5spd w/ k&n fipk, and flowmaster cat back exahust. Do they make a noticiable difference with a 5spd trans, and what type and brand do you think will work bestwith my truck. Thanks for any help

I would go with a Superchip from Mike T. (Superchips_Distributor). Yes even though you have a 5spd, you will notice a difference, you will still get the raw power gain that the autos get, plus the delays and retards you have will be removed, even though you have a manual, you still have delays and retards. The chip is well worth it. I picked up 5 tenths in the quater, and that wasnt from the improved shifting; rather, but the hp and tq gain.

Hi Kingjosh,

Nice to have you drop by.

Yes, the Superchip is definitely worthwhile even on manual transmission vehicles, and that is a very common question, as many people see what's posted from the owners who have automatic transmissions, and wonder if they'll see similar performance improvements in their manual transmission trucks.

You will get the exact same raw power gain in the engine from the Superchip for your manual transmission truck as the automatic transmission trucks get. In fact, you'll actually get more of that power gain from the Superchip to the rear wheels, so you actually come out even better than the automatics in terms of how much of your engine's power you actually get to the pavement.

The manuals also have similar delays & retards during shift events that reduce power and hurt performance, so they also benefit from some of the same basic types of changes that we make on the automatics; the main difference is simply that because you do not have an automatic transmission, there are no shifts for us to firm up.

The Superchip is the only performance chip that tunes each vehcle individually according to it's exact software revision in the PCM (computer), that tunes for maximum horsepower and torque all the time at any throttle position as well as at any rpm (most are full-throttle only), and that is also still 50-state emissions certified. Other performance chips only have maybe 1 or 2 of those characteristics, no other performance chip has it all, only the Superchip. Superchips is the company that invented the performance chip and basically this whole industry about 20 years ago, they've been tuning these vehicles longer than anyone else & have better knowledge, skills & capabilities, and it shows in the results. With the Superchip you will get the maximum safe power gain as well as better driveability, removal of the top speed limiter, etc.

Rather than us blathering on sounding like a commercial, you might want to give us a call to go over this in detail, learn the differences between the various chips (we test them all) & get a thorough understanding of just what the Superchip will do for you.

Oh, before I forget..............the modifications you have listed in your post, your intake and exhaust, do not require any custom engine tuning to compensate for, so you're in good shape there. Also, if you ever do more involved modifications later on that do require custom tuning, like a supercharger or whatever, the Superchip can always be updated with any custom tuning needed.

Give us a call if you like, we can go over this as well as any other aspect of F-150 performance with you as we are F-150 platform performance specialists here at Performance Products, so we cover just about any aspect of performance enhancement in these vehicles.

Good luck with your truck!
