Hi 01,

Yes, just in case anyone else should happen to see this post, the powertrain program does need to be adjusted for an injector size change.

If someone is running on the *factory* program, they can change to larger fuel injectors *if* they also install a properly recalibrated MAF (mass airflow meter), so that the MAF is matched to the injectors properly and run *that* way, but not many do that. Most people upgrading injector sizing are runnning a performance chip, as they want the additional power & proper tuning. With any performance chip, a change in fuel injector size requires changes to be made to the program.

Mike Troyer,

Can the Lightning MAF be combined with 36# injectors and be correctly programmed through the chip?

My reasoning is that I would like to have a combination that is driveable (if only barely) with the chip away for reburn. I understand that this is not the case with the 42#'ers.

Hi Mad,

If I correctly understand what you're asking, it depends on the vehicle....................

In most 1999 & up **non-Lightning** F-150's, we can make the needed adjustments in the PCM program to allow the use of the Ford 90mm MAF used on the 2001 & up supercharged 5.4 engines with just about any injector size from 19# thru 42# without needing A/F's.

We use that Ford 90mm MAF a lot in upgrading F-150's (both the 99 & 00 L's which came with an 80mm factory MAF, which still use 42# injectotrs, as well as "regular" F-150's), so it's fairly common for us to need to tune the PCM for use with that 90mm Ford MAF to be used with smaller injectors on the **non-Lightning F-150's.** For the '99 & up "regular" F-150's we can generally do that on just about any code. On the 97 & 98's, we sometimes need the A/F's, just depends on which computer code they have.

You mention having a driveable combination while your chip is away, which makes me think I may not have properly understood your question...................... you will have to have a custom programmed chip to be able to use that 2001 & up Lightning 90mm MAF on *any* vehicle that it didn't come on originally from the factory, and you will also have to do that if you are going to run a different size injector than what the 90mm is calibrated for on even on a Lightning.

You might want to give us a call on this one to go over your specifics, as I have a nagging feeling I'm not properly understanding what you're really asking, let me know.................
