Another chip question

Okay, I don't know much about these chips. My question is:

I hear you guys talk about the superchip and fordchip then I hear you talking about custom burning a chip.

In order to need a custom burnt chip do you have to do all the other mods first then give the mod info to the person burning the chip so they can have specific requests. I am not sure exactly what the burning of the chip is doing. I am thinking the chip should be my first engine mod or the fipk. What do you do first?

Thanks
Jon

Hello Jon,

Most of the less expensive, bolt on, type mods don't require custom tuning(burn) of the chip.
FIPK, Underdrive pulleys, cat back exhaust, electric fan kits do not require a custom tune.

Headers, MAF, injectors, super charger...type items require a custom tune.

I chose to go with the standard chip and add all the less expensive mods first. Now to do the rest I have to think about custom tuning, which I am planning to do soon.

Hint,Hint...Mike, where is the plan you were to email me. Ron Durham of Plano...97 F150...you know, the A/C dude.

Hi Stealth,

There is a lot of talk, and the Superchip is the one to go with, it's the only performance chip that tunes each vehicle individually, tunes for maximum horsepower and torque all the time at any throttle position or rpm, and is also 50-state emissions certified, no other performance chip offers all of that. And of course that's what you'd expect from the company that invented this entire industry 20 years ago. Superchips has been doing performance tuning for computer controlled vehicles longer than anyone else in the world, and is who the automakers themselves turn to for assistance from time to time.

When you order the Superchip (or our new Micro Tuner for the V-8's), you are assurred of getting the best possible optimization of the powertrain program in your vehicle, programmed to precisely match the exact software revision of the PCM in your invidual vehicle. That means you get a performance program made for *your* vehicle, and not one that has been compromised to run on all similar vehicles.

With regard as to whether or not you need custom engine tuning to compensate for modifications, that depends on just exactly what modifications you have done, or will be doing. Things like intake kits, cat-back exhausts, electric fans & underdrive pulleys do not require any compensations in the engine tuning.

Mods like a supercharger, nitrous oxide, ported cylinder heads, changing the MAF (mass airflow meter), changing fuel injector sizing, etc., those kinds of more involved modifications *do* require custom tuning.

With regard to exactly which modifications to do *first*, and in what order, etc., the best thing to do is to just give is a quick call so we can go over all the details with you properly, so you'll have a thorough picture of exactly what kind of powertrain programming/tuning your vehicle needs for it's modifications, location & how it's being used, & which modifications to do and in what order.

Briefly, the Top 3 best bang for the buck mods for these vehicles are to optimize the powertrain programming with the Superchip, then reduce restriction in the air intake tract (the Air Force One intake does the best job, gaining the most power), and the reducing restriction on the exhaust side, using the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system (it too, does the best job in it's field).

Now, among those Top 3 best bang-for-the-buck mods, you can actually any order you like, & most people want to go in the order of best bang for the buck, of course.

There are *plenty* more modifications that can be done, but most people start with the first 3 or so, going in that order before going on to do other things.

One of the first things to decide on for now is whether you are going to be doing more involved modifications that will actually require custom engine tuning. Again, for that kind of detail, you'll need to call us so we can go over just what kind of performance you want that truck to be capable of and/or how much power do you want to make, how it's being used, timeframe, budget if applicable, etc., and that way we can map out the proper upgrade/modification list & the exact order of priority of each modification so that no mistakes are made and you maximize every dollar spent on improving performance. Then you can make your decisions from a properly and fully informed position, and get the absolute best results.

Give us a shout when you can, we look forward to speaking with you, & good luck with your truck!

Hi Rocks,

Hmmm...............I'll try giving you a call tomorrow so we can go over that, as the email was sent days ago, so it obviously didn't get there for whatever reason. Seems we're getting more of that as time goes by, we're seeing more emails kicked back as beinf undeliverable as well, even to addresses we know are good because we've communicated there that address numerous times before, go figure.

Talk to you soon,
