70/30 solder
70/30 solder
What is 70/30 solder?? All I could find at Radio Shack was a bunch of rosin core solder and one roll that was 96 or 97 tin and 4 or 3 copper, would this work or is that to much tin??
Hi Craig,
Here is a link that may help. It sounds like the 60/40 may be better, I used the 63/37. I'm not an electronics expert by any means but my brother is and that is where I got the information. He said definately don't use the rosin core stuff as it could contaminate the contacts. You might try a better electronics store than radio shack, I only found the rosin core stuff there as well.
Good luck,
Randy

Hey Craig,
Just in case you haven't seen it yet, you can contact Kester's customer service directly at 800-253-7837. They sell primarily to wholesalers who then resell their products, but at the very least they can easily give you the name & number of a distributor of their products for you, so your solution is right there.
Thanks to RandyB for posting that link!

Guys,
If you don't use rosin core make sure you use flux when soldering, it definitely promotes adhesion of the solder to the contact pad. I have never heard of electronic grade rosin core solder contaminating contact pads.

I seen the # for Kester and I called them yesterday. They said try Grainger, I could not find any rosin core free solder there either. So that is why I was hoping for some assistance from Randyb.
