2001 F150 Screw 5.4
Before buying that superchip, do you have any mods? I've got a '97 F150 5.4L with mainly exhaust mods, but a WMS velocity tube and a K&N. I started with a Hypertech. Nothing special except it ran better after my changes.(Had chip first) I could spin my tires easily and could not take off fast in rainy weather. Thought I could benefit from a superchip, so I bought a used flip-chip from a member here. Installed it and have been somewhat disappointed. Low end power is NONEXISTANT. Upper end seems better-but may be due to higher rpms before shifts occur. No wheelspin at all. If I floor it the truck feels very weak until it reaches 25 to 30 mph. Like I said, my Hypertech would lay black marks easily. I even tried no chip for a couple weeks, but there was no power down low either. I've contacted Mike Troyer about the differences in the chips and why the lack of low end power. No response on that yet, but he did say I could pay for custom programming to help with a check engine light due to exhaust mods(highflow converters-running rich), which would not be possible to do with the Hypertech chip. And as for shifts, I can't tell much differrence. Full throttle shifts are a little quicker with the superchip, but definitely not firmer. 1-2 shift very weak with both chips, but shifting in to final drive hard with both. The talk of firmer shifts was partly why I opted to try the superchip. To sum up, NOT worth the money unless it can fix my check engine light problem.
Hi F150Super,
As you'll quickly find by reading this section of the message boards, we've been making the Superchip for these F-150's for years, and they've been shipping for your 2001 for almost 2 years now, so yes, you do have access to the best performance chip made for your 2001 5.4 SuperCrew, the Superchip.
What I would suggest is to read our post announcing the Superchips F-150 Micro Tuner, as unless you are going to be doing more invovled mechanical modification to the engine that will require custom engine tuning (like superchargers, MAF's, bigger fuel injectors, headers, etc.), the easiest & best thing to do is the Micro Tuner.
If you're not sure of what other modifications you may be doing, the best thing would be to just give us a quick call & we can go over all of that with you in detail, talk about how you're using the vehicle, etc., and whether you would be better off using our traditional Superchip module the Micro Tuner that will allow you to upload the performance program in 10 minutes without ever touching the computer.
If you'll read over our thread where we announced the release of the Micro Tuner for your truck (you can't miss it when you first enter the Computer Chips section, just read the list of thread titles & you'll see it), you'll be able to instantly see the various featiures and details, as well as all of the incredibly precise control you'll have over your automatic transmission shift characteristics.
We are F-150-platform vehicle performance specialists, so we can help you improve your vehicle's performance to be capable of whatever level of performance you desire, whether it's mild bolt-ons, packages, or all-out drag strip terrors, we do it all. Most people are concerned with getting more performance and maintaining vehicle function and relibility, and that is easliy done.

KnightS,
I would say YOUR truck is the problem, not the chip (s). As Mike said, you need to pick up the phone and give him a call.
I am on my second 5.4L SCrew 4x4. I put a Superchip in the 2001 at 4800 miles and immediately felt a difference. I just traded the '01 in on an '02 5.4L SCrew 4x4 and had PPI reflash the chip for the '02 computer. Just installed it ( 30 mins) and as usual, the trucks' performance is better. Won't smoke 'em mind you, but a noticeable difference. ( watch your right foot, it tends to put the hammer down more often ).
Anyway, the chip and the airbox mod is quick, easy, cheap and worth every penny. I want to change the exhaust but don't keep the trucks long enough. At least I can remove the chip and the air box and put 'em on the next new ride !!
My 2$ = Buy the chip and install a filter. Do the cheap airbox mod from the tech articles on this site. You'll like it.

flSCREW YOU! I just gave my opinion on the chip. Unlike 90% of the people here I had another brand chip to compare to. My truck runs fine with either chip. The check engine light is due to the high flow exhaust. For someone getting their first chip-yeah, you'll notice a little difference. But I know my truck. Every little sound, vibration, etc. I can swap the chips and notice miniscule differences. Like I said, with the Hypertech chip i can SMOKE the tires pretty good for a truck. With the Superchip I CANNOT. Plain and simple-not even a chirp. I also said the Superchip allowed higher shift points but not firmer, just a little quicker. I think info here is misleading a bit. Everywhere I read claimed more power, firmer shifts, better gas mileage, and was sooo much better than all the rest. I have first hand experience that says it's not true. The mileage is the only thing up in the air as of yet. Need another week or two to decide if any better than before. But as for more power and firmer shifts-that's a joke. So don't knock my HONEST OPINION and try to put down my truck. I take great care of it and it only has 53,000 miles. Plus-IT'S PAID FOR!! Maybe if more people heard info from people like me they could make a more informed decision and not just follow everyone else like a blind sheep into a Superchip wolf den!!

KnightS,

As usual, you can't express your opinion without flying into a rage and saying nasty things. Your response to flscrew is completely out of line, nowhere in his post to you does he attack you, he simply suggests the rather obvious to any reasonable person, since you are the *only* person here to ever claim a Hypertech made any vehicle run better than a Superchip, and that you have a problem causing a check engine light, that just maybe it's your truck. Given those facts, what flscrew said was perfectly reasonable, whether he's right or not gives you no right to fly off the handle saying nasty things, attacking him & casting aspersions about us.
Contrary to what you espouse, everyone here who has ever actually done a proper back-to-back comparison on the same vehicle (and there are *plenty*, all the posts are right here in this section of the message boards) on a vehicle not needing repairs has always chosen ths Superchip of their own free will, because of the superior results, plain and simple.
Contrary to your allegations, nobody is being misinformed, or told things that are not correct by us, etc., and we'll thank you to never again cast aspersions about our character.
In short, let others enjoy what they want just as you expect others to allow you to enjoy what you want. The only thing that matters is that each person is happy with what they have. It is not necessary to go thru life attacking everyone else because they don't agree with you.
I wish you well,

Distributor- I'm not casting aspersions about your character. All I said that based on advertisement claims here and in magazines, I did not receive those results. That is based on my PERSONAL real world results. If you read again, I didn't say you made a bad chip. I said that comparing back to back my chips, there were no noticeable improvements other than a higher shift point. I also said that going from no chip to a superchip would be noticeable. And as for flscrew, yeah I took it as an attack warranting a similar response. When he wrote "YOUR truck is the problem" I took offense. Like I said, I take great care of it. It's not some p.o.s. like you two try and make it appear. And where did I fly off the handle? By saying "flSCREW YOU"? The rest of my writing was plain and simple english in normal conversation tone except to say my truck is paid for, which I'm proud of. And where do I show "rage" and say nasty things? I believe you are towards me by implying I didn't do a "proper back to back test" and I drive a p.o.s. in need of repairs. It runs rich-big deal. It passes local emissions, and doesn't get any worse mileage than when I purchased it. And if it's 'not necessary to go through life attacking everyone else because they don't agree with" me, then why are you doing it to me? Kind of like calling the kettle black in my opinion. I gave my opinion on your product based on my experience just like everyone else here does. If you don't like my results and opinions then turn this into a "superchip only area- all those opposed to superchips must stay out". But until then, I will voice my God given right to free speech here in the "computer chips" forum. And finally, where do you get off saying "as usual" I'm flying off the handle? I just checked over all my past posts, and maybe 3 or 4 times was I raising cain. Gee, 3 or 4 out of 100+ sure sounds like "usual".

Mike ... I hope you don't waste any more time on this guy. I thought your reponse was very adequate and you displayed some class. There's some people that you just can't get through to no matter what. 'Nuff sed".
yean- where does he show class?By implying i can't test chips properly, or by implying I drive a p.o.s.? All this thread shows is that a distributor of a product, that makes a contribution to the site and to advertise here, can show a one sided view of said product. I feel this whole forum shows nothing but bias since no other chip maker for the average truck is represented here. That allows Mike to make claims for his product and to totally downplay any other tuner. He shouldn't be allowed to say his product is better than anyone else's here-to me that is advertising in every thread he responds to. If anyone else with a product endorses it in a thread they get reprimanded. And if anyone here is "casting aspersions" about a product, it's Mike, doing so against every chip tuner other than himself. I thought this was a "computer chip forum", not a "Superchip forum". Steve, why don't you give Superchips their own forum? Or at least Mike.
I have a superchip (not from Mike) but I have dealt with Mike for other items.
No. 1, the superchip is great!!!
No. 2, I have spoken to Mike regarding my truck. He really took his time and went out of his way to explain things to me! Mike definately knows his sh&t!!!
Thumbs up to both!!
