Need to go over this again Mike..

I know you have covered this many times but I'm about to install the Transgo shift kit in my 4r70w trans. I have the superchip installed.
First what level can I safely go to?? I've been thinking about level 2 but some have c/o slamming shifts under low load with the chip.
Next are there any compatibility issues I need to know about ?
I am also going to be installing the Sonnax pressure regulator and bypass clutch control valves since my tranny is high milage.
Just thought I would ask now rather then be in trouble later. Even with higher milage, I have had no problems with my tranny YET...

Hi WLF,

This really depends on just how hard you want it to shift on light throttle. Most people want a smooth shift on very light throttle, but then a harder shift with more throttle.

When installing the Transgo shift kit to be used in conjunction with the Superchip, we recommend installing it on Level 1, as that usually gives you a "chirp" of the tires in most of these trucks on the WOT (wide-open throttle)1-2 upshift, while avoiding harsh light-throttle shifts.

You can always go back in and open things up more if you decide you want even more, but start off on Level 1.

If someone was not using the Superchip, then we would recommend installing it on Level 2, but with the Superchip, start off on Level 1.

Again, it all depends on just how hard you want your light-throttle shifts, but I would start off on Level 1 when used with the Superchip.

If we have not talked about this over the phone yet, you might want to give us a call so I can go over this with you more thoroughly, and discuss what kind of shift feel you want and what it will take to get you there, etc.

Good luck!

Hi WLF,

I was just taking alook at your photo & signature.........photo looks cool with that effect around the border. What stands out even more is the cool integration of the Ford emblem from another FoMoCo, that just strikes me "right." Very few trucks have that, it's a subtle yet striking & unique way to really set off those chrome front ends, which I have always preferred to the color-matching grills & bumpers. Very nice.........

Just as an update.
I am not sure what happened but it seems my speed limiter was reset to 85MPH. When driving to Florid, I must have hit this speed a couple of times when trying to pass. Made the truck feel like it was missing. I then removed the Superchip thinking something was wrong. I must not have hit that speed again on the trip since I had no more problems.
The other day I was passing someone on 95 and boom, cut out at 85. It did it under load and also with no load (down hill). Every time it cut out at 85mph.
Turns out it continues to happen at 85mph without the chip. I reinserted the chip, now no speed limiter. Don't know what happened. Maybe the chip was loose originally.
For now it’s running fine and no speed limiter.
I still plan to go over the entire ignition this weekend. I already checked the fuel delivery system and everything is working fine.

WLF,

There is nothing wrong, we've covered this many times here. You have to attempt to exceed the top speed limiter at least a couple of times for the PCM to pick up that program change in the Superchip, especially in newer trucks, and that's all it is.

If your Superchip is properly installed, there is no possible way for it to come loose (barring a high-speed heavy impact, like an 80 mph impact into a concrete wall, etc. ), so you might want to re-check your installation, checking your Performance Products documetation & redoing your installation specifically with regard to securing that Superchip properly so it cannot ever come loose, as that is completely avoidable.

What you need to do is to attempt to exceed the ts limiter on at least 2 and sometimes 3 separate occasions, and during different drive cycles in the 2000 & newer trucks and even some others. Then the PCM will pck up that change and allow the vehicle to go as fast as it has the power to go.

Good luck!
